Stage IV Ovarian MMMT Treatment and Prognosis

I have a friend who has recently been diagnosed with mixed mullerian cancer (MMMT)of the ovaries (Stage IV). This cancer is very rare and aggressive and she has many mets, ascities in abdomen and lungs. They started her on carbo/taxol to reduce some of the tumors , before considering surgery.

Doctor told her prognosis is not good and may not survive until this Christmas.

Anyone who has experience with this type of cancer, treatment options or any words of hope, would be appreciated.

What a great friend you are casey. I am so sorry your friend's cancer was not found until stage 4. If the chemo does shrink her tumors than they can see what is possible to remove and what options there may be for her. I have not heard of this type but John Hopkins or one of the other sites might have something more specific. to you and to your friend.

Sheesh - those doctors are just harbingers of joy and hope, aren't they. And just in time for the holiday season...
Please send your friend here. How is she feeling? I hope that she can stay positive, even with all of the negatives involved with the diagnosis.

Thank you al for the kind words of hope.

I have just been in touch with her 16 year old daughter and she says mom is not doing very well. Doc is going to try IP chemo, so please pray that this helps.

She is a single mom and her daughter is very scared.
Mom was only diagnosed in September and it appears she is going down hill fast.

Sad thing is, she had symptoms over a year ago, but doctors told her it was nothing but IBS so don't worry.

This really sucks!!!

Oh Casey I am so sorry your friend has to go through all of this. You are such a great friend. I will add your friend & her daughter to my prayer list. I think the majority of OvCa women on here know all too well about being blown off by doctors. I am sure her daughter is scared. There was someone on here a while back with the same type of tumor I just can't remember who it was. I am sending hugs over the internet to both of them.

Her daughter says she is looking very yellow (skin and eyes) and is urinating blood. She cannot eat and is throwing up.

Does this sound like liver failure and if so, how long til the end?

She had 1 round of carbo/taxol, but I don't think these symptoms are a reaction to chemo.

She has no family that is curently helping her, what resources are available to her and her 16 year old daughter.

This is really an awful situation.

Please, I need some feedback, so I know what to expect.
Not sure what I will say to her daughter though.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. Is hospice involved? They can do quite a bit.
