the same day as the surgery. I'm sort of worried about this because I don't have a date for the surgery yet, and my cycle has been erratic. Is it still OK to operate? I guess they are surgeons and used to it eh?

I was in the middle of my cycle when I had my surgery. The doctor just said to me to think of it as going in with my period and coming out with never having to have it again. I was a little embarassed when I told them at the hospital and they acted like it was no big deal.

Believe me Casita48, they really don't care either way. And, look on the bright side, it will be the last time you'll have to worry about that!

I'm 4 weeks post op and have had nearly NO bleeding afterwards. Truly, the worst thing of the whole ordeal for me was the waiting, the cathedar and the stupid IV! Everything else went great. Trust in your doctor.

Best wishes.

I started the day before my surgery. All 10 days of my cycle were always very bad. The doc got to see first hand what I went thru every 2 weeks for the last couple of years. It didn't stop surgery. He still fixed me right up.

I was having my period as well and had dropped my blood level from 11.4 to an 8 in just a few days, my surgeon just told me that my ute was going out with a fight! I won the war though. Never so happy to have had surgery in my life. Best thing for me, was having horrible periods with blood levels going up and down and getting blood transfusions - 4 units in 6 months! Just laugh when you go into surgery knowing you have the upper hand!!!!! Good luck and will say my prayers for you

Not to worry. I was on the heaviest day of my period the day I had my TAH and I said, I am on my Period! But then I was always on my period. Constantly.
Wear a pad and take some with you. It is absolutely no big deal to the Dr. or staff.
Just don't wear a tampax. When you get gowned, put on your pad. No udies, so I kind of had to haul it around between my legs. I took extras with me as my Dr. had to deliver a baby and I got delayed for 3 hours. No problem. They are used to this. it was a brief oh gosh, big deal to me then I quickly realized a no big deal to them. I think it is pretty common. I also took extras for after the surgery since I liked mine better than what they charge for at the hospital. Just tell your nurse and nurse willl shrug, not a problem at all.

Well thankfully mine didn't come though it threatened to but I looked at it like this as soon as he made the first cut it would be bleading anyways so they see blood all the time right.
They got the tools to deal with it don't worry
