Gyn Onc consult
Hi Ladies!
I've written a couple of times on this forum. I had a hyperplasia problem (suspected atypia, but then downgraded).
Well, I talked to the oncologist over the phone, because the clinic wouldn't let me in to see her unless I had an actual diagnosis of cancer on my medical record. She said that it meant nothing that my last biopsy was normal, that there could still be something in there when they do the TAH.
She said a regular gynecologist could handle it, but then mentioned something about doing a wash while they were in there (lavage out the cells maybe?). Anybody ever hear of that? She said that my doctor was really good, so at least that is comforting.
Also, my doctor wanted to take out the cerivix as he said it would stop any future problems with hyperplasia. Anyone have thoughts about that? I've never had a bad pap smear or anything.
Oh well, not sure what to think. If there is abnormality brewing in there, then it's probably best to have it out. I am heartbroken I can't have kids, but I don't want to have cancer either. Its bleeding so bad and hurts hard during the periods, I just have a feeling that things are wrong. I guess I am making my decision on that, though it's a vague feeling. Anybody else ever doubt a your decision?
Thanks! I have another neoplasm that I am dealing with, not gynecology related, and I needed to talk with some ladies who also are dealing with wierd cell issues. I think biopsies for gynecology, in addition to the biopsies I already get, would be too much to deal with. Not psychologically helpful at all, you know?

Hmm . . . Did you see a gyn/onc or just a regular oncologist? (I'm kind of confused as to why she's sending you back to your gyno if cancer is suspected.) If she thinks there could still be "something in there," you don't want your regular gyn doing the surgery. You don't want to be on the operating table and find out your regular gyn is in over his/her head!
The wash she was referring to is done by a gyn/onc during surgery to check for cells which have spread. It is my understanding that a regular gyn doesn't do this, only the gyn/oncs.
So, if you didn't see an actual gyn/onc, I would strongly suggest that. If the oncologist you saw was a gyn/onc, I'd suggest a consult with another one because this sounds kind of "off" to me. Just my two cents.

Gyn Onc consult
HI,
Get a second opinion!! I had a pap back in Aug, hadn't had one in about 2 years and that came back abnormal. They were very sweet to me but when I went in and they gave me the report and said I needed to go to a specialist and gave me a list of numbers to call ( I have no insurance) I was a wreck I went out in my car in about 115 degree heat with no air conditioner to make the calls. I could not believe after explaining my diagnosis that most of the people I called did not seem concerned, one doctors office said they could see me in March 2008. Well I though wow how bad could it be? decided to come home and call the rest of the numbers. I finally got a doctor to see me the following Tues but then had to cancel because I started my period so it was rescheduled till the following Tues. I looked up my diagnosis and I wish to GOD that is the diagnosis I have now because that was just a pre-cancerous type of condition which could me nothing sorta like a dysplasia. ( I am not making light ok they are all something) Anyway I finally got a doctor to see me one week before Halloween and I went in for a colposcopy. One week later to the date but not the time ( I was looking at the clock all day ) I got the call... My coloposcopy came back abnormal and the doctor needed to see me. ( of course that was not until the following Tues). The doctor came in and told me I had adenocarcinoma in situ and did an exam and an endometrial biopsy. I came home looked the diagnosis up 1 million times and read all I could. Even that diagnosis wasn't that bad in the large scale. I was sent to another doctor who could not I found out 3 days of scary waiting see me could he did not take medicare so I was passed on (THANK GOD!!!) They scheduled me for 1 month and 2 weeks out which I was like WHAT???? I called my state worker and she called and then we found out that the original diagnosis of favor neoplasia was sent so that is why they set it so far out but when she faxed them my NOW diagnosis they set my appointment for 11/20/07 which was two weeks away. The reason I tell you this is because you have to be your own advocate can you imagine if I would have waited till March. I went to the second specialist an oncologist/gyn/surgeon and he read my reports and did an exam and booked me for surgery the very next day. I had a cold cone and some other procedures. I know this is not the norm but i am so glad that I have really had such aggressive care (although at the time I thought it was taking too long). After starting with "Favor Neoplasi" then to Adenocarcinoma in situ I have now been diagnosed with "Invasive adenocarcinoma with squamous components staged 1A2. I hope that you do not or any one does not have to go through what I have had too, it has been such a journey and to think had doctors offices tell me they could not see me until next year because of my first diagnosis which in light of the real diagnosis is nothing ( I would much rather have that) Don't get me wrong this sucks no matter what stage or type of cancer or pre-cancer condition you are diagnosed with and I would have taken the first one if I did not push!!!!!!!!!!! We all deserve so much better. Even if we have no insurance. We are all humans with feelings and hearts and souls. I have a real sucky situation going on for me now but at least I know. I hope you get the answers you need and don't listen to anyone but yourself. I hope this didn't come off harsh, I didn't mean it that way I just want anyone going through what you are to really fight and fight hard because if I waited till March, it might be too late for me! I now have a lovely doctor and this beautiful place to put my idea's and emotions and hopefully help others and stop them from the red tape paper shuffle. Everyone is different and everyones diagnosis is so different but we all share out stories and it helps, at least I feel like it helps. Ask a million questions and get your answers. Come here for some strength and solace. This website has helped me so much, These strong beautiful compassionate women have helped me so much. I am not afraid of tomorrow anymore. I hope you get this strength too. Here is a great big
