6 months post op and still in alot of pain from infection and internal bleeding
Looking for advise from anyone who might have an experience similar to mine. I had my total hysterectomy on June 7th. Had a fever and chills the next day, but they did nothing for it while at the hospital. I was discharged with no antibiotics or anything.
Ten days later I felt like crap so I went to my local emergency ward. Was told I had a blood clot under my incision and it would clear up in about 4-6 weeks. Five days later I was flame red from one side of my abdomen to the other. They told me I had an internal infection and sent me home with antibiotics. Five days later my incision opened itself in 3 spots and was oozing pus like crazy. Back to the emergency room. They did an ultrasound and told me I had a pocket of infection 4 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inches in diameter. They proceeded by reopening my incision to drain the infection, as best they could, and sent me home with it packed and dressed. This followed by home nursing care every 12 hours for the next 4 1/2 weeks to unpack, repack and dress the incision.
It was a long haul, but now 6 months later, I am still in alot of pain on one side.
My surgeon has told me I have fibrous tissue from the infection and is looking at referring me to someone who will do pain management through injections, which I will have to travel a 1000 miles to get. Also something about laser surgery to help the situation.
Does anyone have any advise for me? I'm desperate at this end and am getting pretty fed up with feeling like crap all the time.
Would definitely appreciate some help....

6 months post op and still in alot of pain from infection and internal bleeding
Hi,
My advice to you, and it may not be much, is to go to someone OTHER than your surgeon!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I get in to alot of trouble for this advise, but in "my personal" situation, my original GYN acted like I was insulting his surgical technique when I did not heal "textbook". After 2 years I found a wonderful fertility specialist, of all doctors, considering all my female parts were gone, who took the TIME to LISTEN to me. When he went in with a lap, I had FIVE adhesions that had my instestines tied into knots! In his words, I was a "mess" in there. Unfortunatly he can not help the orginal 7 inch incision, which gives me a lot of pain. That I have to live with. You may have to have what is called a "scar revision" where they open up the original incision, cut away the bad stuff, and close you with a new incision. Maybe you should give up on the GYN's and try a pain management doctor, or even a plastic surgeon who knows how to cut with the least amount of damage. Just some suggestions, nobody should have to live in this kind of pain. I know, I went to over 10 doctors before I found relief. SOOOOOO very frustrating. I see you are from Canada, so I don't know if you are allowed to go to whomever you choose. I hope so. Good Luck. I care, and I just wanted to bump your post back up to the top with the hope that someone else can help you.
