Does Progesterone Cream Help with Depression and or/Restore Sense of Well-being?

Since my LAVH/BSO, I have been feeling a bit down and I guess you could say kind of "raw" emotionally. I also do not have that sense of well-being I had previously. I am using the Vivelle Dot and a compounded testosterone cream and my levels were recently tested and came back fine. So the only missing component is progesterone. I was wondering if this is sometimes used to restore sense of well-being in women with no uterus/ovaries? Or is it used for other purposes? Thanks for any information. Lisa

Does Progesterone Cream Help with Depression and or/Restore Sense of Well-being?

Hi Lauralis here is some info:

http://www.yourlifesource.com/progesterone-effects.htm

Some medical experts say progesterone is not necessary for women without ovaries........others say it is
It has only been 6 months since my tah/bso and my original Dr only prescribed estrogen and I did not have a sense of well being

I am now on bio identical replacement with biest/dhea/progesterone/testosterone and I feel 100% better both physically and mentally.
Remember every person is different and what works for one may not work for another.
Good luck

Lisa,

I took ERT without progesterone at first, and did not feel well physically or emotionally. When I started the progesterone I improved. My head cleared and I felt calm, whereas on the Estrogen alone, I felt like my nerves were raw and I could not concentrate as well. Everyone is different, so you just have to find what is best for you.

Good luck!!

Progesterone calms me and seems to complete the picture, hormonally speaking. Just be aware that since it's calming and promotes sleep, it's a fine line between just right and too much. It takes patience while adjusting to it - I felt worse before I felt better. Give a minimum of 6 weeks. This is just my own experience - some women feel just fine without it.

I will also say that it's my understanding that progesterone production drops off more dramatically at natural menopause than estrogen does so perhaps age is part of the equation.....

Thanks for sharing your experiences w. hormone-balancing. I had my surgery Nov. 1, felt fine for 6 wks, then became depressed the 6th week fwd. Am on estrogen, thanks to your cmnts, I'll ask my Dr about adding progesterone, too. This is all very frustrating! Was hoping I'd start off well-balanced after surgery. My nerves are raw, too!

katrina591 - Looks like we're neighbors. We probably had surgery in the same hospital!
