period after a hysterctomy?

if you keep an ovary and your cervix you could possibly have a mini period but they arent real common. usually its just spotting and not a big deal. ask your dr if he cauterizes the cervix during surgery. good luck

period after a hysterctomy?

A period occurs when the lining of the uterus sheds each month in response to the hormones your ovaries produce. If the entire uterus is removed -- a hysterctomy -- then there is nothing to shed whether or not you keep your ovaries. If you retain your cervix -- the bottom portion of the uterus -- then you can have a mini period if you also keep one or both of your ovaries.

We have several Pre Op Hysterectomy Articles that you may find very helpful and informative.

Many best wishes to you for a successful surgery and smooth recovery! S
