Vivelle-Dot and Headache

I'm sorry if I'm asking too many questions, but all this is new to me and you ladies are the only folks I know who have any experience with this stuff.

I changed my V-Dot patch tonight for the first time since the first one was put on Thursday after my BSO, and like that first time, about 4 to 5 hours later, I've got a headache. Both headaches are in the same place on my head and are the same intensity and feeling.

Is this a typical reaction to a new patch? If so, will it eventually go away?

(Of course, the headache tonight came on during my family's Christmas celebration, while my three grandbabies were yelling and playing and everyone else was talking loud, so maybe it was just a coincidence. I guess I'll know for sure when I change again on Friday.)

(((Lisa))) I've never gotten a headache either before or after changing patches, though I've heard some women say they get them when they need to change (because of lowered estrogen levels). Why don't you start a journal of your symptoms so you can talk with your DR about them... it helps to write down the date, what vitamins, supplements, HRTs and other meds you're on, and what symptoms you have. In your case, also write down which days you change the patch. Then see if your headaches exhibit a pattern (other than occurring whenever the grandbabies get too loud ).

I hope this helps.

Vivelle-Dot and Headache

I had trouble with VDot and headaches. I tried every strength and had the same problem with each one. Ughh.. I'm struggling with estrogen and headaches (the main reason I had my ovaries out!) As Linda says, the best route is to keep a record of symptoms (if you can stand it that long) I couldn't! I went off everything as of yesterday. My head is finally better after the past two weeks of constant pain and nausea. Ughh.
Merry Christmas and best of luck

Vivelle-Dot and Headache

I was on the Vivelle-Dot Patch to control my hot flashes. It was a wonderful experience until I realized that I was getting a horrible headache from it. I even went to my neurologist who told me that headaches was one of the common side effects of the V.Dot Patch. UGH! For me, it didn't matter when or where I put the patch...my headache was a constant. It really was tiring always feeling blah.

I am going to try some other hrt. It is just very frustrating. The side effects of some of these drugs really is amazing that they are still on the market to the general public.

I agree. I just can't believe that something that makes you that sick (getting used to it) is good for your body! I'm having great luck on just Estriol cream (no estradiol). Have an appt Thursday with yet another doctor to talk about it.
Best of luck
Happy New Year

Thanks, ladies. I didn't get a headache the last two times I changed my patch, so I guess it wasn't the cause. That's good to know!
