Endo and possible adeno

Hi, my name is Esther. I am 35 yrs old. I was recently officially diagnosed with endometriosis, moderate to severe, via laparoscopy. I have suffered from endo for many years, some years better than others. I chose to have children first before going the surgery route. I was quite fortunate in being able, with the assistance of natural progesterone cream, to have two lovely children.

Since the birth of my 2nd child, my health has been steadily declining. I did not suspect my endo for quite awhile because my predominant symptom was fatigue, and my periods took awhile to get more painful. I think nursing my daughter for 2 years must have helped some. This past year things were getting much worse pain-wise, and when I bled profusely for 2 hours and passed 2 golf-ball sized clots during one cycle, I finally went to the gyn.

I had had a cyst on my right ovary the year before, seen via ultrasound, but it wasn't that big and so I chose to leave it. This year it was bigger, the size of an orange, so I decided it was time for the lap. The lap was beneficial in diagnosing endo, draining the cyst, and that was about it. I am now in more pain, almost constant, and by the feel of things the right ovary has either regrown the cyst or reattached itself to the cul-de-sac, or both. No fun. But I wasn't expecting any better. For reasons best known to myself, and even those I'm not so sure about anymore, I chose to not go to an excision specialist for this first lap. Now I am making my plans for excision surgery within the next 3 months.

One of the doctors I sent my records to called me yesterday and told me that based on my uterus (indentable, soft) and my symptoms (clots, etc.) it looks like I may also have adenomyosis, for which the only "cure" is hysterectomy. He would be able to do an LSH when he excises the endo and take care of it all in one operation. One ovary looks fine at this point. The other I'm not sure I want to keep since it has been so troublesome this past year. He recommended keeping whatever is good, including the cervix. Although, just to complicate matters, my gyn's office called today to tell me that I have just had my first abnormal pap smear and need to come into the office for a colposcopy.

So here I am, researching hysterectomies, because my husband and I are pretty much decided to go that route. I have tried alternative therapies extensively in the past 2 years, naturopath, chiropractic, acupuncture, integrative medicine, and nothing there has helped.

Hopefully removing all the disease and the diseased organs will give me my life back.

Esther
