One step forward, two steps back

I had a TAH/BSO on 12/3 ... not sure if that puts me in week 4? or week 5?

Anyway, by about 12/30 I was feeling pretty darn good, and I started to get up and do more things with my family. Just little stuff like making breakfast for the kids, loading and unloading the dishwasher, folding laundry, picking up the enormous mounds of junk in the living room. Nothing heroic or "forbidden".

But I woke up this morning feeling so darn bad that I basically stayed in bed all day, except for a couple of laps around my tiny house. And now that I'm at the end of the day, I feel really discouraged because I feel as lousy now as I did when I woke up! Sore incision, feeling deeply exhausted, cranky, sweaty, and ancient!

Does anyone else feel this way? Is it a normal part of recovery? I feel like I've been transported back in time to week 2, and week 2 really stunk!

Thanks for listening ...

I over did it between weeks 3 and 4 over 2 days - and took 3 days of resting on the couch to actually feel better. I also panicked and ended up running to the doctor because my right side was so tender and was sent home with instructions to REST!!!- all a result of over-doing things, non-heroic or not!
Go easy on yourself, pepper65, as all of us sisters must!!!

Thank you so much for your post! Had surgery the same day and I feel just like you! It is so discouraging - I really thought I'd be "fine" by now. Some days are great and then today - yuch. Part of me feels like I'll never feel better.

We're having storms in Northern California and I just got a call from the retirement home where my mother lives - they are just 5 minutes from me but have lost power - everyone has been losing power on and off. The lady from the facility said my Mother wanted to know what she should do. I said - well, it's only 6:30pm - what are all the other residents doing? They're downstairs together. So I suggested that maybe my Mother should go down and be with everyone. I asked her if she wanted me to come get her - she didn't (the usual guilt thing - no don't go out in the rain...). The truth behind this long story is: I don't have the energy to take care of her right now. This weather isn't that unusual - everyone looses power briefly - and the facility should have something in place for making people feel okay. I know I'm over-reacting - but I just don't feel good enough to care for my Mother right now. So now I can feel guilty on top of everything else!
