Any Homeschool Moms Out There?

I have been reading alot of great suggestions and tips on this site. I was just wondering if there are any homeschool moms out there and how the big "H" affected the school year.

Any Homeschool Moms Out There?

I homeschool 2 of my three right now. I have been told I need a hyst, but am waiting. I know I could just delay the school year and go into summer, but i havn't chosen that route yet. I will be anxious to hear how your time goes.

I think I would really like some time to recoup w/ out kids around, don't know if that is possible.

Good luck w/ your upcoming date!

Any Homeschool Moms Out There?

Hi there
I homeschool my 4 kids, and am scheduled for surgery on 1/8. My mom flew out to help us out for the next couple of weeks, and I am planning to take the recovery time I need. Having been through some other major illnesses, husband being deployed several times, tons of military moves and major life disruptions, I have learned to go with the flow, and have a more flexible schedule. I can also check work or read out loud from the couch if need be. I don't think they will miss much, if any, work since they will keep working without me.

Thanks for the homeschool advice

Thank you for the homeschool advice. My problem is that I can't sit still for too long with out going completly mad. Doesn't that sound like a typical type "A" thing to say? I already had to stop going to the gym because of my amemia. I have been having terrible vertigo because of this. We will start back with school tomorow and I really get into the whole planning thing. That's when I realized, "what are they going to do durring my recovery time". Thank heaven for you guys. So now and today I have decided to keep repeating my new montra, "go with the flow, go with the flow, go with the flow". I can do it?! But when I am better, IT'S BACK ON!
Thanks again!

Any Homeschool Moms Out There?

I'm a homeschooling mom, too. I had an LSH/BSO in the middle of the summer which was helpful. I liked that I didn't have to run the kids to piano lessons or gymnastics until I was 5 or 6 weeks post-op.

You could use the time you have now to figure out a system for reading books from your recliner, etc. and just get things organized for a reduced teaching schedule from your chair/bed. Anyway, the beauty of homeschooling is that we can spread out the time over part of the summer, during Feb. vacation, etc. because we have that flexibility.

How old are your dc? Mine were 7 and 5, but I was happy that at least they were both reading when I had it done. I have to warn you that I did feel more than a bit of brain fog afterwards, but you do adjust over time. Give yourself plenty of time to rest and pamper yourself and have lots of good videos handy.

Any Homeschool Moms Out There?

Forgot to mention--don't forget educational games! We love geography games, math games, even good old board games like Life or Monopoly. I figured if they play those while I'm down and out, at least it's something. Also, the videos are helpful. My kids are aged 9 and up, I do think this would be much more difficult with all younger ones.
I am off to the 'castle' tomorrow!

Any Homeschool Moms Out There?

Good luck Gal5:17. Or is break a leg more appropriate? Or maybe I sould say break a uterus? LOL. My dc are 11, 13 an 15. The two youngest are homeschooled. but the oldest one goes to high school. They are old enough to work on there own, but there are certian subject that we do together. Science is the most fun. We do LOTS of experiments and such. I'm trying to hold it all together in my mind, but I think I am just trying to envent things to worry about. I will be glad to get this thing started and over with.

No home school but in home daycare

I stopped to read your posts because although I don't homeschool, I do in home daycare. I watch for 4 families, one of which is my autistic nephew. The days fluctuate but I have anywhere from 2 - 4 under the age of 4 yrs. I am struggling with this because I can't ask 4 families to take 6 weeks off. My DH has volunteered for "DADDY DAYCARE" for my first two weeks PO. Actually the first week we will only have my nephew so that is no big deal. He is practically part of our family and our youngest DC is autistic as well so he doesn't phase my husband or I a bit. Week two will be back to normal so DH will be in charge with me giving direction from the recliner.

However after two weeks I am on my own. My biggest concern is getting heavy toddlers in and out of the car and pack n plays. Have any of you been in similar situations? Am I crazy to expect to do this after two weeks PO? I am having TVH on 1/10 hoping to keep one ovary.

If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them:-)

Jenny
