If you keep your cervix and at least one ovary, it is possible that you can have mini periods. I don't know about the swelly belly issue. I didn't have it, but my surgery was laparoscopic.

I've heard too that if you keep your cervix and ovaries you can have mini periods- hopefully very "mini". I had a TLH and did not have a swelly belly as far as what the sisters with TAH have had. Yes mine was a little swollen for the first week, but no major issues- liked my knit pants over my jeans.
As far as returning to work so soon, what did your doctor advise? Even with a laid back office job, your body is doing a lot of work with just trying to heal. the first week or so post op I liked to curl up in bed and rest as having surgery is very tiring.

It is very normal to get nervous prior to the visit to the castle. I think most of us here have had those same feelings. Take a deep breath and before you know it you will be on the road to recovery.

I keep reading that desk jobs or office jobs are easy post-op. I work from home, at a laptop, and I can tell you that it's not easy. I had a TAH, and don't know how that would differ from a vag hyster, but sitting was painful and exhausting. I also was in a "mental fog" for the first 2-3 weeks. I was only able to put in a few hours of work, total, the first 2 weeks, and that was while wearing pajamas, LOL!

I think that everyone's recovery, as well as their doctor's instructions, is different. You should talk to your doctor about what restrictions he/she has for you, and what to expect.

As far as the issue of swelly belly goes, please don't let that worry you. I had a TAH and was a bit swollen the first 3 weeks (mostly from the IV stuff) but was never in any kind of pain - amazing how comfy jammy bottoms are!! That comes and goes but mine never hurt.
I would also check with your Dr. about recovery time. I was like Guinee those first 3 weeks, mental fog, unable to sit for any length of time, and tired.

You will find on this site that we all support recovery time at YOUR own pace - don't compare yourself to others. Take the time you need - guilltfree!! You only have one chance to heal right.

Glad your found us!

Hi New Here,

I had a partial hyst. Kept my ovaries and cervix. As some Hyster Sisters replied, if one or both ovaries and the cervix are retained...there is a chance of a mini-period in post-op. I had my cervix cauterized during my hyst and I have not had any mini-periods. Cervix cauterization does not guarantee no mini-period...and it certainly helps. You might check with your Dr. about cervix cauterization.

I had swelly belly for about 10 days with my hyst and it was workable. Just took it easy for the first few days.

I just have a question...what type of partial hyst are you having?? You mentioned you are having a vaginal hyst and generally the cervix is removed with that type of hyst. So maybe a question for your Dr. also.

Sending best wishes~

Mary

All i recall the doc saying is that I would be having a Vag Hyster but leaving my left overy becuase that one is good still. I assumed that ment it was a partial. I will find out more at my pre- op but that still isn't for weeks yet.

New here

You've had some great replies above, but I don't know whether you couldn't find your other thread where you've previously asked the same question about "mini-periods"? You had some good replies there, also!

You can find your other thread by clicking here: http://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...54#post2434054.

Wishing you all the best!

Welcome Sister.

What is the procedure that you are having? If you are leaving your cervix, there is a chance that you could have small periods and you will still have to go for annual exams. My doctor explained that how the periods happen is - the uterus and cervix are connect of course so it is not always possible to tell exactly where one begins and one ends. So if any uterus is left, then you may still have small periods.

I am not sure about the swelly belly thing. I asked my dr about it and he said that the first day you will because of the gas used but he said it should go down pretty quickly with a LSH. But I also agree that everyone will have a different experience.

In my opinion, I think 5 days is way too soon to head back to work. Have you mentioned that to your DR already? If you must get back to work, I would recommend starting with half days that soon after.

This is a major surgery and you need to take time to heal right and get LOTS of rest. I plan to take at LEAST 2 full weeks. But your doctor would be best to advice you on this.
