Can vaginal atrophy cause crampy pain?

Hi Sisters,

I am wayyyy post hysterectomy. I had surgery in 1998; I think the correct term is LAVH, laparscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy? I have my ovaries. I have never taken any HRT and don't plan to ---except ---

my plans went awry due to discomfort and slight bleeding after intercourse. This went on for a month before I finally decided to see the Gyn. His exam showed an atropied vagina which was 'inflamed' - not infected. Thus the slight spot of blood once in awhile. He prescribed VagiFem tabs inserted once a day then a couple times a week next week.

My question is:

Can vaginal atrophy and inflammation without infection cause sort of a crampy feeling somewhere in the lower abdomen? I don't have the crampy feeling all of the time; I haven't taken any Advil all day. It seems to come and go. Right now I have no crampy feeling at all.

My Gyn said he did not palpate my ovaries (which is good, I guess) that they aren't noticeable, but I am worried. He is ordering a vaginal ultrasound ?????? to double check my ovaries. An ultrasound I had last week didn't show anything but he said the vaginal ultrasound will show him a lot more.

He also ordered tumor marker tests, CA125 and some others. I admit I'm worried sick.

Just wondering if this is sort of a thing that someone has run up against and if it's kinda part of the whole rollercoaster of menopause???

The VagiFem is helping with the unhappy vagina, but like he said, 'it took you a year to get to this point so it will take awhile before the tissues are plumped up again.'

I just hope I don't have something going sideways with my ovaries. Please, if anyone has had this same thing I'd love to hear from you!

Can vaginal atrophy cause crampy pain?

I would think it is possible to have crampy pain from vaginal inflammation if it went up high enough.

I think it is good your doctor is checking on things. Women can have crampy pain from a lot of different things in the lower pelvic region, but it does not mean it is necessarily a serious problem.

Your vagifem may make you feel better, so hopefully you will be more comfortable after giving it a chance to restore tissues.

Hang in there

Can vaginal atrophy cause crampy pain?

I don't have crampy pain but I am having irritation and burny pain with the vaginal dryness. I know how worried you must be, but please try to keep it in perspective -- I think chances of it being something normal and not cancerous is higher than the risk of cancer. Please let us know how it goes.

Red face - Can vaginal atrophy cause crampy pain? Re: Can vaginal atrophy cause crampy pain?

I was having these crampy pains at my age 66. I went to a Gynecologist, she ordered a vaginal sonogram done. I had it done and got I got copies of all my record.
I read from the copies I obtained that the person who did the study, wrote that I have a cervix nabothian cyst and that my uterus is atrophied and thining of the endometrium, and this--- Ovaries-not seen, most likely due to atrophy.

I had my jaw hanging for a while. I have to make another appointment with the Gynecologist, because I have not been given an appointment.

The symptoms-crampy feelings have subsided, maybe because I was stunned.

So I have been looking on the web looking for definitions and I guess reassurance that there is no danger yet.

This is one of the first medical specialist appointments I have made here in Florida.
and I am at my age getting anxiety over these new ailments, maybe they weren't new, anyway, I just wanted to share this info
