Pre op visit

Just had my pre op visit today. I have got to say that my doc really talks like he knows what he is doing... he does a bikini scar very low. He does disolving stitches and just glue for the top. no staples or stitches there. he doesn't cut thru muscle and prefers to pull it aside... I am confused about the belly support thing as he does not like it. he said that my stomach muscles would get lazy using it and there would be no need for it. I was really sure that i would need it. he also said he injects something in the fat that will numb me for a few days there...
I will have a pain pump. I was surprised about that as it is a small hospital. i also am to take 2 doses of Milk of magnesia twice a day for 3 days... eat nothing but clear liquids the day before and do a medicated douche the morning of surgery...
I know all docs are different.
I am going to wind down and get ready for my big day.. am very very nervous still.
My pap was good, of that i was thankful as I had a leap procedure a few years ago for dysplesia... right now i have polys plus the mass on my ovary.

It does sound like you had a good and imformative pre-op with your dr. I had a tah/bso with a bikini cut too, but I had staples - the glue instead sounds great. I didn't use any belly support at first either, it actually hurt to have anything pressing on my tummy. I used light support undies after 6 weeks when I was back to resuming my normal activities.

Be sure to stock up on lots of liquids for those days of bowel prep, you don't want to get weak or dehydrated.

Best wishes.

Pre op visit

Hi - I had the TAH/BSO with dissolving stitches and i even commented to my surgeon on her "awesome incision". And like Jeanus, I too didn't use any type of belly support other that a soft towel to support myself as I got out of bed or up from the couch (my hands seemed to work well after the first week as well). The tummy is very tender!
Good luck to you next week - yes, the waiting is the hardest - truly!!

Hi - I also had a bikini incision, and was amazed at how quickly it healed.

I had a running stitch, using what looked like fishing line, but Im sure it must have been more specialised than that!lol.

I have had swelling, but not too bad after a week or two, and haven't used any kind of support.

Remember, you don't have to get everything in advance to surgery -you will still be able to order, send out for something to support if you need it..

I agree with the comment, not wanting anything on the incision at first, it might irritate it. I didn't buy any new underwear either, just wore things low below the cut..

It's great that your Dr sounds so competent.

Good luck and take care...soon be on the other side
