Getting aggravated with Drs office what..........
should I do. Okay, I have been seeing him for about 2 years, he is the BEST dr. I have ever had, he is wanting to perform TLH on me becuz of my problems. Well, he has never done this procedure before I would be his first patient (which I am not concerned I have 100% confidence in him) my problem is, I can not get his staff (one being his wife) to give me a surgery date or a price (i do not have insurance) I have been calling them since the first of December and they keep putting me off. I went to see the dr. on friday to see if he could get the ball rolling for me and he told me it shouldn't be a problem, but then his wife is telling me something different. I tried calling her today and she is not in the office. My husband is getting very aggravated, I am at my wits end, I am ready to have this surgery and I feel like I can't get any answers, I guess my question is what do I do, should I call back and ask to talk to the doctor or should I just hang in there and be patient? Thanks everyone for your info, this is a WONDERFUL site, I am so glad I found it.

i think you've been patient waiting 6 weeks for a price and a date. there must be a reason why they arent giving you one. i'd just be up front with the dr's wife (if shes the office manager..if she isnt, ask to speak to her/him) and tell her you've been very patient waiting 6 weeks for a date and price, and is there a reason that you are unaware of as to why you havent been given this? 6 weeks is a pretty unreasonable time to wait just for a price and date.

Personally I would not want a DR that has never preformed a major opperartion to"pratice" on me. PLus, the fact you are being run around should be another sign to get a second opnion. It may be they do not have the go ahead rom the hospital to give you a date, being that he has never done the surgery, or he may be contacting another DR for advise and has not been able to reach them.

I am with Nikki on this one. I take he is the only doc in that practise? You should not be given a run a round. If she as the office manager doesn't call you back call and talk to the DR himself. If he is having trouble getting it scheduled maybe he can refer you to someone else and work out an payment plan. The hospital would work one out with you also, especially if you are in a community with only one local hospital like mine.
Good luck.

I agree with Nikki. I'm having a TLH tomorrow and my Dr (although kind of young in a not quite Doogie Howser way) specializes in laproscopic procedure. 95% of the surgeries he does are laproscopic and he's been doing them for over 5 years.
Six weeks is too long to wait with run around and your Dr should understand and encourage you to consult with a surgeon who has done more than see the procedure on video. Maybe your Dr. can scrub in and assist rather than practice on you.
Please consider you options carefully, a second opinion should not hurt your Dr's feelings or damage your Dr-patient relationship.
All of this of is just my opinion.

run....don't walk for a second opinion...i.e. new doctor. Sorry, I am going to be blunt. I wouldn't in anyway want a dr. to practice on me. If he was practicing on me, I would expect not to pay for it!!! Maybe the six week wait is because he is getting "trained" on the equipment. You know for example that sometimes medical equipment reps actually train the dr's on the equipment. Your six week wait is ridiculous! Should be a sign to look elsewhere.
From experience, don't have confidence in a dr. just because he is confident or cocky even. Have confidence based on fact---number of surgeries, etc.
My opinion so take it for only that.

Ditto....run, don't walk to someone with experience. surgery is not the time to practice, he should do that under the supervision of trained surgeons, not on my ovaries honey....

OK here I go LOL When I went for my Pre-op my DR who is wonderful said and I quote" The first thing I would ask me if I was doing a major surgery is how many have you done and what is your sucess rate" the he answered I do over 200 a year for many years. I am very comfortable I agree with the others if he had said 10 I would have had to have gone to another DR

I watched a live TLH online last week, just to see how it works (although, I'm having a TAH). Anyway, the surgeon performing the TLH said that a doctor needs to be very experienced in this surgery to be able to perform it. one thing he said could happen with non-experienced surgeons with TLH is that if any small piece of tissue from the uterus is left inside the abdomen, that could cause many future problems (ie, that small piece of tissue could grow onto other organs and cause many problems, and future surgeries to fix these problems.)
Anyway, that said, when I watched that video, I remember thinking if my Dr. wanted to do TLH on me, I'd only agree to it if he had done more than 150 of them successfully. But, since I'm having TAH, it's a non-issue for me.
I'd get a second opinion....
Good luck!!

Is your doctor a surgeon?
I'd call your state's medical advisory board and find out his status. You can probably find him online also by Googling his name and the name of your state.
Big red flags for me here.
