Questions about using progesterone without estrogen

I had a TAH/BSO 09/26/07 and am not on bhrt. Not sure if I will but if I do, I want to wait at least 6 mons to a year post op. My questions is< "can I benefit from a progesterone cream w/o taking estrogen?" I have been told that it helps with bone health and other things and can be used w/o bhrt. Could the progesterone work with whatever estrogen my adrenal glands can produce? And is it true progesterone cream can help with osteoporosis and heart disease?

Questions about using progesterone without estrogen

Hi! I took a bio-indentical progesterone alone for 4 months after my TAH BSO in Sept. I recently went on estrogen. I had a bone density scan to see how my bones were doing after 4 months off of estrogen. It wasn't good. My Dr said I was ostiopenic. I am now on a prescription and calcium to help me build my bone mass. I was told that progesterone would help my bones for the period I would be off of estrogen. It looks like it didn't do its job in that area. Progesterone did help with hot flashes, though.

Questions about using progesterone without estrogen

Thank you CaJen for your response. I was looking for someone that's used progesterone alone to see what their experience was like. Can I ask what estrogen are you taking and how are you feeling with it? It seems to be good for some and not for others. I wanted to go w/o the bhrt but am now considering it because of the affects (no bhrt). Maybe I'll be one of those that respond well.

Questions about using progesterone without estrogen

I am now on Vivelle Dot. It is a bioidentical estradiol patch. I love it. It is easy and I am feeling a lot better. My Dr is tracking my levels and upping the dosage slowly, since I was off of estrogen for a while. I am on one of the lower dosages right now. I understand about the effects of no hrt. It isn't easy! I couldn't even think straight! Just being on the low estradiol patch has already made me feel much better in that area. I can't wait to get rid of these other symptoms!
