has anybody else had a hysterectomy because of recurrant abnormal paps?
has anybody else had a hysterectomy because of recurrant abnormal paps? for the last 10 years or so i have never had a normal pap,i have had hpv for this long and 2 loop cone biopsy's but it has never gone away so now i'm having the hysterectomy to get rid of it. has any body else had a hysterectomy for this reason?also i can't help but be thank ful that i started bleeding when i had sex with my husband because my doctor had took my pap a month before and i was waiting for the results, but he sent me to see a consultant who also took a pap but the results came back normal which was a huge shock,so then i was sent to colposcopy and they did the tests and it came back i had cin 3? the doctor said the reason the 2 paps came back normal was because there is so little of my cervix left they didnt hit the right spot. so ladies has any one had a hyster because of abnormal paps. also whats to stop it come back or does it only affect the cervix?

has anybody else had a hysterectomy because of recurrant abnormal paps?
Actually, there are many ladies here who have had their hysterectomies due to recurrent abnormal PAP's. It's a very frustrating situation to be in to have treatment after treatment, only to have the abnormal cells return again.
I had a cone, 2 cryo's and a LEEP prior to my TAH, and the doc said that the sample from the LEEP was in pretty bad condition due to the scar tissue from the other procedures. He was highly concerned that if I didn't have the TAH that my PAP's would be unreliable in the future. So I had the TAH.
Cervical dysplasia is caused by a virus that approximately 80% of women acquire during their lifetime. Most women have a natural immunity to the virus and never have any symptoms, and some of us do not seem to be able to achieve immunity, so we have ongoing problems. The point to be made is that since it's a virus, it's going to be in your system forever. It is possible (though highly unlikely) that it could recur on your vaginal wall or even on your vulva. Don't panic--it's highly unlikely. But it does happen to a few of us, so remember that you need to keep having follow-up PAP's and exams--even after your hysterectomy. When it's caught early, it's highly treatable.
You might like to pop over to Cancer Concerns where many of our ladies with cervical dysplasia and cervical cancer spend time. I'm sure they'd be happy to offer their stories and support.
Good luck! Please let us know how you are getting along!

has anybody else had a hysterectomy because of recurrant abnormal paps?
I am having my hysto for CIS and had a cold cone in July, since then I have had chronic problems including no period for a year now. We have tried different hormone therapies and have had zero result with either, test out the wazoo. I had the option of Cryo or Hysto. I chose hysto because I feel it will be the best choice to get me onto a road of recovery to feeling healthy again. We also added TOT sling for stress incontinance to be taken care of at the same time.
You are not alone, this board is full of lovely caring ladies that have had or are having the same experiences.
Hope this helps

has anybody else had a hysterectomy because of recurrant abnormal paps?
I'm scheduled on Feb 13 for a total hysterectomy for recurrent abnormal PAPs. Mine have only been CIN-2 readings on the biopsies, and I've had one LEEP (back in 2004). I've just decided that a hysterectomy is the right choice for me, as I've been dealing with this for almost 5 years now.
You are definitely not alone, and it's nice to know I'm not either. Sometimes I feel that people don't understand the frustrations of dealing with reoccurring HPV, and that as drastic as it might be.. a hysterectomy is the right choice for some of us.
Best wishes to you,
~Cherie~

has anybody else had a hysterectomy because of recurrant abnormal paps?
You are definitely not alone. My surgery is scheduled for next week for the same issues. I had a bad pap and then a cone biopsy that showed CIN all due to HPV. The reason my dr and I deiced on surgery was to prevent the cancer cells from coming back. Basically you cannot get cervical or uterine cancer if you do not have either piece of equipment. As Jeanie mentioned there is a REMOTE possibility of the vaginal walls developing cancer by my Dr said it was very uncommon.
Good luck and please feel free to drop me a note anytime.
