Keep My Cervix or Not?

I am scheduled to have an partial abnominal hysterecomy on 5 February due to excessive bleeding and clots lasting 3 weeks each month for the past year. At this point, I am ready to live a normal life again.

I am confused and questioned my doctor if I should/can keep my cervix. She informed me that it was up to me. I am concerned that when I become sexual active, it will not feel the same since I do not have a cervix but I do not know enough women to ask. I've done research on the Internet but have not found a lot of materials. I have read an article that stated that some times when the cervix is left, the woman may continue to have some bleeding each month as if she was still having a period. Have any of you experienced this? Do you think I should have it removed along with my uterus? I will be keeping my ovaries for sure that is the plus side (if any).

Please send some suggestions/comments that can help me make up my mind because I'm running out of time.

Keep My Cervix or Not?

Hello, Prieta!

You've come to a wonderful place to get input from others who have faced making the same decision. I hope you will enjoy being a part of this supportive community!

Post a new thread, just like you did here, over on the Pre-Op Hysterectomy Support message board where your Sisters can reply to offer their input and share experiences. If you're a good candidate to keep your cervix, consider keeping it the same as you would any other healthy organ.

Best wishes for your surgery and recovery!

P. S. - Please take a minute to add your surgery date to your profile. That will add your name to the site surgery Calendar as well as the Best Wishes thread for your surgery date. Plus, you'll need it in place to use the Post-Op board after surgery. You can add the date using this link.
