Afraid of surgery ? read this

I've been reading a few posts about the fear of anesthesia and I thought I'd share a funny story with you guys.

I had surgery for an anal fistula two years ago. The fistula was PAINFUL - I can't even describe it. Doctors appointments included being lanced, proded, poked and intimately examined. Lets just say its a good thing I'm not easily embarrassed - and if I were, that experience would have gotten me over it !

I was nervous as a lark when I got to the surgery suite. The nurses taking care of me asked if I needed something to relax a little - I said yes. I have no idea what they put into the IV but within minutes I was fast asleep. As they wheeled me into the O.R. I stirred a bit and someone said "Hi, my name is Steve and I'll be your surgical nurse". I looked up and with a HUGH grin said "HEY !!!!! Hi Steve !!! How's it going !!!!!!!!!!!!". You see, I recognized Steve --- he's my neighbor ! When he heard my voice it dawned on Steve that I was his neighbor. He asked if I wanted him to find another nurse instead of him. Heck, I was so out of it I could have cared less LOL. Steve ended up staying for the surgery. Poor guy as at my house later that day apologizing profusely to my husband for being in the O.R. while they fixed my butt. ROFL

Steve knows the date and time of my TVH. We agreed that he's NOT going to be there for this one !

If you're afraid of the surgery don't be afraid to ask your doctor for something to calm you, and don't be afraid to ask when you get to the surgical suite. Trust me, they know how to relax you.

I know how stressful this whole thing can be so I hope my "most embarrassing moments" can be used for GOOD ! As they say, laughter is the best medicine !
