14 days post BSO-hormones whacked out!!!

Hi Ladies-

I'm having a really rough day today. Everything was fine until last friday when i started having shooting pains. I did talk to my doctor and she said the pains are from the stitches and the mesh disolving. She put a big piece of mesh material over my cervix that she repaired so the bowel wouldn't adhere to it.

Now i'm having really bad anxiety, palpatations, acne and teary eyes. I'm not sad, i just feel the way i did before i had my period. I feel like my hormones are totally out of whack.

Can this all be normal? How long does it take for hormones to level out after a BSO? Does anyone know how all this works? Does the body use the stored up estrogen and progesterone for a few months? what happens?

Today i wonder if i did the right thing. I'm only 36 years old and i don't feel any better than i did before i had the surgery and i'm having a hard time staying positive about anything. I am really really irritable and aggitated.

I'm really freaked out about getting breast or peritoneal cancer from ERT despite the research i did before my BSO.

Any thoughts? Thanks much!

vivelle patch-ok to cut it in 1/2 ? ???

Does anyone know if the patch will work the same if you cut it in 1/2 or in 3/4 to reduce the dosage, if that is what my doctor decides? I'm just wondering if it will affect the delivery if it is cut...

Thanks!

(((Tera))) The Vivelle-dot patch can be cut, yes. It's what's called a matrix delivery, which means the estrogen is suspended in the adhesive, mixed evenly throughout, so that half a patch contains half the estrogen in the whole patch. (This is compared to some patches which are reservoir patches, which means all the estrogen is in a little pocket in the center of the patch and will leak out if it's cut.)

However, based on your symptoms at this point I seriously doubt whether your DR would ask you to lower the dose. The symptoms (heart palpitations, anxiety, teariness for example) are classic symptoms of low, not high, estrogen.

You are only two weeks post BSO at this point and very newly on HRT. It can take many months for some women to level out after surgery. It's really important to try to relax and be patient and just 'ride out' the storms for a while rather than jumping to raise or lower your HRT right away.

in there

14 days post BSO-hormones whacked out!!!

Hi Ladies-

I talked to my doc. today and she said that the patch won't work the same if I cut it in 1/2 so they have to call in a new RX for me.

They did decide that my level was too high from the symptoms i explained and are reducing me to .05 (i've been on 1.0) vivelle dot.

My doc's rationale for starting me out on the higher dose was to prevent a "crash" as some people go into a deep depression from the effects of losing the ovaries.

Earlier today I tore off my patch and just went the day without it and I feel better already. While I do have some more hot flashes, I feel less bloated, anxious and my breasts are not quite as tender.

I'll pick up my RX tonight and start on the .05 and hope for the best.

Thanks for all your help!
Tera
