Fistula?

When I had my LAVH, my bladder was punctured. My dr stitched where it was punctured, but apparently not enough. My dr said that it is a fistula, where my bladder has healed itself to my vagina. Upon seeing a specialist, they did a cystoscopy and said that the hole is the same one where they puntured my bladder during surgery. I have a catheter in for 2 weeks, hoping that keeping the bladder drained, so it's not leaking out of this hole, that the hole will heal on its own.

I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, and if it healed on its own. The specialist said that if it doesn't heal on its own, that I will need surgery to repair it. I would've opted for that right away, but being only a week and a half post op from my LAVH, it was too soon for another surgery. She also said that if I need the surgery, I will still need the cateter in for at least 2 weeks afterwards.

Fistula?

Daykota,

On occasion, a fistula will close with the catheter therapy, although I have to be honest - it the spontaneous healing is not as often as we would like. But, there have been a couple of sisters who were lucky enough that this worked. It depends a lot on how big the fistula is, and where it is located, so let's keep our fingers crossed that you are one of the lucky ones!!

If you do need surgery, yes you would have a catheter afterwards. However, if you do need surgery ask your doctor what kind of catheter you would have. I had a suprapubic catheter which for me was more comfortable than the foley.

Good luck and many s ...
