smelly discharge?

Hey gals--I am new to this site. I really wish I would have found it prior to my surgery! I had a total hysterectomy on Jan.21st. They had to do a belly incision and also take care of my endometriosis and remove some scar tissue that had adherred to my bladder from my c-sections. I still am having brown discharge and have to wear a pantyliner. What concerns me is it is extremely foul and has gotten worse the last week. Last night, I thought one of my son's dirty diapers was laying around me, but I was smelling myself!! TMI I know. Have any of you had this. I am thinking of calling my doc on Monday and am wondering if it is indicative of a possible infection. Any thoughts?

smelly discharge?

Hello beclea,

You will find this site a true blessing, I sure did. It does sound like an infection and I would call your doctor ASAP. I am not even sure if you should wait till Monday. With infection, you can turn a corner so fast and become very ill. Do you have a fever?

Best of luck,

bitterpill

smelly discharge?

definitely not right. get to a dr sooner rather than later. i've heard on this forum and others that sometimes things like "packing" have been accidentally left inside. best to get it checked, to make sure? also, if it is an infection, better to get it cleared up, before too much scar tissue forms? anyway, good luck with it, and i hope you get it sorted very soon, and it isn't too much of a drama.......gee.

smelly discharge?

Thanks for the responses girls. I haven't been running a fever per se', but my temp is up from my normal range. I also have Lupus and when I flare up, I get a low grade temp too. But I think you girls are right, I will call the doc on call. I take a mild form of chemo for my lupus that depresses my immune system, so I have a hard time fighting off infections. Thanks for the thoughts ladies!

smelly discharge?

I developed the foul-smelling brownish discharge with an itch 7 weeks post-op. I knew something was amiss. I was right. I had bacterial vaginosis from my ph being thrown off after surgery. I agree, call your doc ASAP. I had to be put on an antibiotic right away.

Hopefully you have heard back from the doctor and all is well...just in case they haven't called you back yet...maybe to ease your fears a bit...you could just have some of the dissolvable stitches dissolving and coming out. My doctor warned me that I might notice a foul odor and slight greenish discharge and told me not to worry. (boy that makes a woman feel great knowing she gonna have green icky stuff that stinks coming out of her!!) you could be fine...even a lil bleeding is normal...but its ALWAYS best to call the doctor!!

Did everthing clear up for you after the antiobiotic? My problem is that Iam 7 months post op (LAVH kept both ovaries) I thnik I have had this for the whole time I have actually been treated for 4 UTIs(treated w/ antibiotics) since last Aug. My doctor finally did a pap fri and called today to say I have this BV so I'm wondering if I have actually had this BV the whole time since I started having the UTIs

smelly discharge?

Hi Hoverj,
Yes, mine cleared up after a week on antibiotics. Before I got treatment however the discharge had led to an external yeast infection exacerbating the problem and the itching was terrible. We treated that simultaneously with a topical ointment and that cleared up quickly. One infection often leads to another. Make sure you get treatment and watch for any other resulting infections. Good luck!
