Has Anyone Experienced This Much Bleeding?

I am so over all of this bleeding. I am tired of being exhausted and weak. I have been bleeding since Oct. 2....NON STOP! I don't have heavy days every day but the last 3 have been the worst by far. Last night I was up every hour without fail to change my super tampon & overnight pad. I bleed really heavy for a few hours & then normal for a few. Anyone else experience this? Any tips on how to deal with it?

I have another appt. with my Dr. on Monday to TRY to get my regular pap in before I have my upcoming procedures but I think she probably wont' do it if I keep bleeding like this. There is no pattern either...I can spot one day & flood the next & then spot again of bleed heavy for a week at a time. I am over it! When she asked me last week if I wanted to go straight for the hysterectomy I should have said yes!!!

No, I dont' really mean that....I want the hyster. as a last resort but how much can I take? I can't even drive to go see my brothr in the rehab center he is in becuase it's over an hour away & there is no safe place to stop to use the bathroom.

Help, I'm going crazy!!!

Hey Pam
I'm sorry you are experiencing such discomfort. Is your doctor aware that you are bleeding this heavily and often?

Do you have endometriosis? Fibroids? I never had bleeding like that, and now I have no bleeding at all so I can't offer any advice about that.

I can speak about hysterectomies - it was not even close to as bad as I thought it would be. I was lucky and healed very quickly.

Good luck to you Pam

I can relate to feeling like you have been bleeding forever. Since the beginning of August I have had less that 3 weeks off of my period. This is despite have a d&c in December, getting a Lupron injection in January, and another one in February. I have not bled yesterday or today. I hope it will not start again before my hysterectomy on 3/4. Have you tried using the pads intended for urine problems? I have had to use those at times. They can hold a great deal of fluid. I will keep you in my prayers. I hope your procedures go well and solve your problems.

Pam,

This may be obvious, but is your doc aware of the amount of bleeding you are experiencing? Having to change a super tampon and a maxi pad every hour is a LOT of blood. If you are bleeding this much, I think you should put a call into the office and see if they have any suggestions.
Remind us again......what procedure are you having and what options have been presented to you to avoid a hysterectomy? I know you were torn about having the hysterectomy procedure, but I can't remember what was suggested to try in it's place.

Thanks,

Yes, my Dr. is aware of the amount I have been bleeding. I started keeping journal in Dec. (her suggestion) & give a copy to her each time I see her. I am wodnerign if she is not overlly concerned because it's not that heavy every day, just about 1/2 to 3/4 of each month. Today I am pale & weak. I did just nap a little so I feel a little better right now but I know it won't last.

Last week I had an attempted uterine biopsy that failed because my cervix was closed tightly to visitors. I had my 2nd vag US that showed no cahnges.....lining still thick & uterus large. No fluids though & ovaries looked fine.

I am still waiting (I don't know why they haven't called me yet) for an appt. @ the hospital for a biospy, D & C & ablation.

In a recent post I told you all my sister has ovarian cancer....just diagnosed. Now I am going to bring this to my Dr.'s attention on MOnday before we procede any further.

I don't know what to do & it would probably be a waste of tiem to call my Dr. over the weekend.

BTW, what is Lupron?????
Thanks everyone!

No fibroids....not in 2 vag. US anyway. As far as endo.....she doens't know. I have a biospy coming up so hopefully they can tell then.

I am just over it & wondering if I should just go ahead with the hysterectomy.

Oh geez, that's a long time. Now I feel bad for complaining. How do you get through it? I am tired of beign tired. I want my life back! Do they have a cause for the bleeding? How was recovery after the D&C?

Thanks!

Don't feel bad for complaining, that is one of the best things about this forum. We all have similar problems and can vent to one another and then support one another. I get through it the same way you do, one day at a time and one step at a time. I am also tired of being tired. The iron and B 12 shots I have receive have helped some, but I hope to feel better after my hysterectomy. I have endometrial hyperplasia and adenomyosis as well as (at least at the beginning) an imbalance of my hormones. As an added bonus I have multiple cysts on both ovaries, and a couple of cysts in my pelvis that don't appear to be connected to anything. When I get my hyst everything is coming out. Hurray!! I did not have any trouble after my d&c. I had never had one before, and they did a hysterscope, a endometrial biopsy, and a laparoscopy at the same time. After all that I did take a week off, but when I returned to my 12 hour days as staff nurse (think turning & pulling on patients) I was fine. Also, I saw you asked what lupron is, it is a medication originally for prostate cancer that essentially shuts down estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. No hormones=no periods (at least that's what they said) Good luck with everything!! Let us know how things go.

Pam, I don't know how old you are and if your age is why the doctor and/or you are hesitant about the hysterectomy, but I just don't understand your doctor. One of the major signs of having serious issues, whether it's endometriosis, huge fibroids, or cancer, is changing a pad every hour on the hour. Are you throwing any clots?

Please see another gynecologist. I'm going to tell you a story, not to scare you, but to warn you about not getting a second opinion. For years, I suffered increasing pain, debilitating, increased bleeding, etc. until I was bleeding (like you sometimes light sometimes very very heavy) almost non-stop. My gynecologist kept telling me fibroids and difficult peri-menopause, even though I had had two brothers with colon cancer before they were 40.

A kidney stone, of all things, saved my life. I ended up admitted through emergency, severely anemic, and had to have a kidney stone removed. The urologist walked into the room after, and said, "you have something else going on and need to go to your gynecologist the day I release you; I can't diagnose you but you have something else going on" When I told him what my gyno said, he told me to go to my family doctor and get an immediate referral to another gynecologist.

I went to another gynecologist and then a gyn/oncologist. I am alive, today, because of the urologist however.

At this point, with your history, why your doctor is waiting for anything is beyond me. You know, years ago, doctors were "too eager" to do hysterectomies. At the first sign of perimenopause, they basically just performed one since it was easy money. As women became more aware, the pendulum has swung the other way to avoid "unnecessary" hysterectomies. Both ways, it seems, women have come out the losers, only today, many of us are made to suffer in agony, missing out on life, missing out on work, missing out on a lot of things, because the regular gyn's are so cautious NOT to do the hysterectomy. There is a "happy medium" and I wish the medical community would find it.

PLEASE PLEASE, at the very least, DEMAND, DON'T ASK, DEMAND A CA-125, BASED ON YOUR SISTER'S HISTORY AND YOUR ISSUES.

Honey, if it's time, it's time....you can't go on like this.

Has Anyone Experienced This Much Bleeding?

Hello WillToWin, My Dr. was ready to do the hysterectomy when I had the attempted biopsy last Tuesday. It's me who's hesitant. She has no real "reason" to do the hysterectomy. I have not had a CA125, she couldn't do the biopsy because my cervix was closed. So, there is not yet a "reason" to do the hysterectomy. She said even if the biospy comes back clean (also US shows not fibroids, masses, etc.) I could get a hysterectomy if I wanted because of all the bleeding. I am hesitant because what if it IS just hormones and an blation would work? Wouldn't I have had the hysterectomy for nothing???

I am so confused but so tired of being in pain and bleeding. I can't even get really clean in the shower for the blood streaming down my legs. I can't take a bath becuase I'll have pink water & that grosses me out. I am a baby, I know.

I will DEMAND a CA125 though for sure when I go Monday.

I am willing to have the hysterectomy if necessary but I think I should try other options first, right???? Also, we just moved to TX and don't have many GREAT freinds yet. No family here, they all live in IN. I have 2 children to care for and hubby could only take about a week off in a row. He is a VP for a fast growing, busy company & travels fairly frequently. I am so stressed over all of this, I just feel depressed.
Thanks for listening to me whine.
Pam
