Binding your belly? Has anyone else heard of someone doing this?

I had a friend tell me she knew of someone that binded her incision area with an ace bandage all the time to help with the healing. I wanted to post this with the post op gals but it won't let me. I am curious if this is ok. I did order the swelly belly band but also didn't know what else to use. I am going in March 3rd for my TAH-abdominal hyster (hope that is right). Anyways, trying to get everything together for recovery. Thanks for the support!Karen Can't wait for this to be over & out of pain..well eventually!

I know that others have asked about using an ace instead of the belly binders issued by hospitals or buying the swelly belly band.

I don't have any expereince with any of them, but I would think that you would want to be careful with an ace because you don't want to put too much pressure on the incision.

Somebody will come along that can shed more light on this.

Blessings on you ....

I heard about this and about ladies buying supportive undies as well - as far as I'm concerned the less on the belly after surgery the better. I wanted nothing more than a little ice pack or a heating pad, and jammy bottoms, for the first month. Jeans were comfortable only after 6 weeks. The body didn't want any kind of pressure on it so I listened.

I didn't get the swelly belly band but I don't think it's designed to put pressure on you either, just cool comfort.

Hope this helps - I'm sure other gals have input on this as well.

Just remember - it's all about comfort!!

When I woke up after surgery, I had a binder on around my belly. I had a verticle incision and they put a maxi pad vertically over my incision and then put the binder over that. It really helped support my tummy and as long as I didn't tighten it too much it never really bothered me. I wore it for probably a week after surgery.
