Swollen and discolored pubic area?

Ok, so I've been doing great and have been taking it easy during recovery but just had a shock. I started swelling in the groin area the other day, Yes, a pudgy pubic area! Not that big of a deal, knowing that a lot had happened to my body and fluids are settling and all.

I called to talk to my Doc and got the Dr. on call who said don't worry too much it's just the trauma and should go down. If not I was to call on Monday. So the swelling has gone down some but now there is very dark patches that look like blood under the skin or bruising. I called the Dr. on call again and asked what the deal is and I'm going in to see the Dr. today. Anyone else have this happen?

Is this normal?

Thanks

Swollen and discolored pubic area?

I was discoloured from purple to navy blue from the top of my incision to the pubic area - took a long time to return to skin tone.

As far as I can tell it sounds very normal but good for you to check with your doctor - I did that too if nothing more than to put my mind at ease.
As for the swelling - not so swollen now but still a bit tender to the touch - 3 months out.

Just all part of the healing. Hope you find the same with your doctor today.

Swollen and discolored pubic area?

I am only 2 weeks out but have that same issue. In fact, I'd say that bothered me more than some other things. Mine has not gone down one bit as of yet. I am hoping it won't last. I went in for my check up yesterday and my doc said everything looks great so I assumed it is normal. Hope everything is okay for you. Let us know what they say.

Swollen and discolored pubic area?

Hi...I also was swollen in pubic region for at least 1-2 wks post surgery....swollen about 4 times the size...unrecognizable..lol.....black and blue looking...when I went to the doctor she said, "Oh, that is nothing, I have seen much worse!"...she told me it was where all the fluid was settling if I was sitting alot all day...she told me to lay down and put a pillow under my butt, and also to try to sleep that way...the swelling went down when I did that.......so I got the sense it was normal, but if concerned, always best to call your doctor and ask....good luck

Swollen and discolored pubic area?

Thanks everyone,

I'm glad it seems to be normal. I went to my Doc today and she took a look and said what happens is that there is a bit of blood in the tissue from the trauma and because I was doing everything right, like walking, it had settled in that area. Which kind of makes sense. She said it's like a bruise and will clear up like one. I'm relieved and glad I asked.

I just kept thinking "is that Necrosis?" or some other creepy thing? Glad to know all is well in basement!

Cheers,

Swollen and discolored pubic area?

Thanks for the posts and the information on how to reduce the swelling. (pillows under the butt.) I have been having the same problem - without the bruising, but the swelling is so uncomfortable and annoying. How are all of you doing now? Any changes since February? (I'm 5 weeks post-op.)

Swollen and discolored pubic area?

Hi Jeannie,

I'm doing great, thanks for asking. I'm back to work and pretty much my normal life. We'll, without the constant fatigue, bleeding and all that lovely stuff. The only thing that still reminds me of the whole event is the tiny scars are still tender some days, exspecially when I ware my jeans, the waistband hits in the wrong place. Other than that, life is good.

I wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery.
Cheers,
