Many thanks to all of you for the helpful suggestions. I will be sending good thoughts your way as some of you have your surgeries. I will be going in on 2/21 for TAH and BSO. You are all reassuring and it helps to know that I'm not alone in being nervous! I will look forward to reading your posts and seeing how your recoveries are progressing. What a wonderful place to be able to share and support others! I've got a good shopping list written now, thanks to your tips.

Hi Bellaluna -

Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted on how you do. I am having the same thing done, but I have to wait until June due to some complications I'm having with being anemic.

Prayers your way

Thanks to all who have posted here! I thought I had a handle on the things I will need post-op, but found some great add ons! I never thought about washing the bottom half after the surgery, and I should know better- I had a c-section. (the doc will use the same scar)
I am lucky enough to be off for the 2 days prior to my surgery, so I will be looking through all your suggestions again, as well as cooking and cleaning.
Also lucky enough to NOT have to do a bowel prep, although I am scheduled for an enema the day of.
I read on another post to bring peppermint tea to the hospital-helps with nausea.
I, too, believe that humor will save my sanity, loves to run, as I really don't think my family has ANY CLUE as to how things will change around here for a few weeks!
Good luck to all on their way to the castle!

Goodness maybe I should be nervous. I'm not scheduled yet but its time. When I had my babies via C Section 24 years ago I remember being pretty sore, but that was then!

I'm so glad I read this post! I never considered bathing or bending over. To be honest I'm going to my grandmother's house after surgery so I will be good and spoiled by time I get home. My husband works full time and goes to school full time so he will be in charge of taking care of our cat, greyhound, and chihuahua. My daughter will go to her dads for about a week and then she has to go to camp for a week so will be well taken care of. My ex and I only live 3 miles apart and I simply adore him and is wife! We were better off as friends and I'm lucky we made an effort to stay close.

My grandmother however is a spitfire who has more energy than I could hope for (she's only 73, I come from a young family) and will not let me not walk. I really don't like pain and pain meds make me really grouchy so my DH and I knew my grandma would let me complain and would say "ok you can complain all you want but YOU WILL WALK!"

My doctor said I can wear socks into surgery so I bought the fuzziest/ most colorful and fun socks I could find. Some with stripes, some toe socks, some with animals so that when I'm in the hospital I can at least giggle when I wiggle my feet. Plus I bought this wonderfully tacky birthday hat that has a boa like pink around the bottom and top of the hat. It has pink and black zebra print and says Thirty and Flirty! Since I usually celebrate my birthday for a month I figured I shall wear my had with pride after my surgery! At least it will give the nurses a giggle.
