Physical Therapy post-op?

Hey all! My TAH is going to be scheduled for sometime in the next two weeks (still trying to get a set date from the hospital) and my Doc has referred me to get physical therapy a couple times before to get comfortable and post-op. She says that my muscles in my stomach are spasming and in "guard" mode from all the pain I have been in. I don't really know if this is a common issue and a normal thing to go ahead and do or what. My aunt who has also gotten a hysterectomy told me that all I needed to do is drink Activia and get some herbs from the natural food market. I don't know really what I think about going to physical therapy for the muscles spasms. Does anybody have any ideas or thoughts on the subject?

Well, I didn't and haven't had PT for spasming abdominal muscles. However, I have had A LOT of PT for spasming muscles in my shoulder, neck, and head! And it has been benefitial!

So from that perspective, I would suggest trying the PT. If the PT can loosen up those muscles and get them to calm down, it could help with you post op pain. I would think that if you go into surgery with tight (on guard) muscles, it would make for a much more painful post op experience.

I wish you all the best for whatever you decide! Let us know! S
