Night and day sweats now?

I'm wondering if anyother woman are going thru or have gone thru what I'm feeling lately?

I had my total hyster back in the fall of 2005.
I have been on the vdot patch, the highest patch and never really had any major problems with it. as a matter of fact, I felt like it saved my life from the way I was suffering when NOT on it the couple of weeks after my surgery.
I was trying to go it without anything. when my dr saw me, she immediatly wrote up a script on the highest millegrams for my symptoms.

since she put me on the patch back in "05" I stopped getting heat flashes.
But now, after all this time, I"m suffering with intense heat run from my legs, to my mid section, and spread all the way to the top of my head.
it happens multiple times thru the day time and at night it can wake me up, because my legs are sliding against one another.
I have to wear short night gowns that are cotton, and nothing long sleaved and no long pj pants just to make SURE I don't get woken up from sweating so much.

I have gained weight unexplained within 2 weeks time, before that i ate anything I wanted.
I just quit smoking but am on the nicotine patch.
maybe the nicotine patch is decreasing the estrogen patch of it's estrogen and therefore making me go into menopause symptoms?
OR , is it the new medication that's a mood stablizer that's intefering with the estrogen patch?

I don't want to call my dr yet and am hoping that before I go to that length, that someone else may have gone thru this and that there's not something more serioiusly wrong with me.

I can't distinguish the common heat flashes of menopause or is it the sweats from possible disease in the body?

I hope that I can get an answer.

Thank you all,

Linda

Night and day sweats now?

I am sorry you are having this happen after being comfortable all this time with your hrt.

Here is some information on the side effects of the Nicotine patch:

http://www.medicinenet.com/nicotine-patch/article.htm

Flushing can be one of the side effects, everyone is different some may get it more or less , or last longer than what they say. Your body will have to adjust to the changes it is going through. I would talk to my doctor about all that you are experiencing.

Exercise might help you with weight and the circulation of hormones.

Hang in there that is so great you are quitting smoking!

Night and day sweats now?

Suzie Q,
I appreciate your reply to me. I was wondering why I didn't get a reply from this forum until I checked my bulk mail and found two replies sitting in there for me from this forum.
I don't understand why they put this in my bulk mail?
It should have gone into my incoming mail.
I don't know how to fix this problem.

Getting back to the flushing problem I was having,

I did a search on a particular medication I was just put on for my bipolar and it said that this drug can interfere with birth control pills and forms of hormone treatment.
I LOVE the way my dr. informed me of this before I took the medicine.
she knows I'm on estrogen and didn't warn me about mixing the two together.
PLUS they also warned that this type of drug must be known that the person is taking it and should either be worn on on a medical alert bracelet or written on something and put inside our wallet so if in an accident the hospital staff is aware the person is on this drug.

it's dangerous mixed with other drugs. My doctor over looked this important bit of information.

I have a problem when looking up the side effects of a new medication I'm prescribed, because I wind up feeling the side effects and then stop taking the medication because i can't handle the side effects.
so the one time I say I'm not going to do a search on this new RX so I can get better and look what happens?

They warn you about it effecting hormones if you take it with them.

It's not a life threatening illness by any means, but it sure is a bothersome side effect to me.
what if I was taking birth control pills and they became less effective and the person didn't know this?
there'd be a chance they'd become pregnant by mixing these two prescriptions together.

thanks again Suzie.

sincerely,

Linda

Night and day sweats now?

Hi Linda, Before my surgery I was on Activella and still had the sweats day and nite. Now that I am truly in menopause, surgically, I started on estrogen 1 1/2 weeks ago. The day and nite sweats are still here but not as intense. I understand the looking up drug interactions. Call your doctor about what you found on the internet. As much as we rely on our doctors to know everything, they don't and they need our help. I think I saw something posted here about being proactive in your health care. Good luck and I hope you get this resolved soon!
