How long out of work? (children mentioned)

we haven't set the date for my LAVH but it is going to be in 3 months hopefully before this lupron shot wears off and i start bleeding like a crazy person again. i have 8 kids and i am going to need my husband home too so my question is how long did you need to be off your feet and resting? how long did you have help for? and how long did you stay out of work for?

thanks in advance

All I can say is WOW on the 8 kids... Holy moly. I had my hysterectomy done vaginally so I can't really help you with the time frame for a LAVH. My hubby stayed home with me until I was about a week and a half post op. It's not that I couldn't do things for myself, but he made sure I had healthy meals (not that I felt much like eating) and kept my medications on schedule. For about the first 2 weeks I just kind of slept alot, but I managed to take care of the kids before and after school myself after hubby went back to work.
My doctor put me off work for 8 weeks. But then again I was supposed to have an Abdominal hyst. I'm now at 4 weeks and truly feel like I could go back to work. I feel great. I'm even doing spring cleaning. Much slower than normal, but I'm doing it!!

I agree WOW 8 kiddos good for you! I have 2 kiddos ages 4 1/2 and 3 and my hubby will be home with me for 2 1/2 weeks, then my Dad and step mom will be here for the next 2 weeks, so I will have 4 weeks of coverage. I am having a TVH. GOOD LUCK HON

Hi Ammy
I had LAVH with BSO and I took off 7 weeks, I am a nurse, I am fortunate to have good job benefits. I could have returned at week 5 with some minimal difficulty if I had to , but I dont so I didnt.
My husband took off the first 2 weeks, I have 2 older girls late teens.
With 8 kids, I would say if you can have some forms of help after those first 2 weeks with hubby that would be great. You will bounce back nicely if you do have the surgery laparascopically. You will need more help if you have to have an incisional style.
God bless

I had an LAVH and stayed out from work for four weeks. When I started again, I was working from home. This way if I needed to take a break and lie down, I could. Much more difficult to do that at the office.

Of course, it depends on your job. Mine is sitting at a computer and typing. I think if it involved lifting, I would have needed 6 - 8 weeks. I don't know how old your children are, but you want to be careful with lifting them-- especially toddlers-- for 8 weeks or so.

OMG...that is insane. How big is the hotel company you work for? There are all sorts of laws protecting against this. No chair?!?! If they have more than 50 people and you have a medical reason, it is illegal for them to not let you have a chair!!

WOW!

That being said, good luck. I cannot imagine handling 8 kiddos when I feel 100%, much less after an operation. Do you have family that can help?

Maybe if your doctor writes you a note they will allow you to sit, or to take more frequent breaks. I don't know what your setup is like but when I was a cashier we got just one 15 minute break every four hours. I don't think that would have been enough for me at 4 weeks out. If they do allow you to alternate sitting and standing, I would think you will be fine.
YMMV.

I had a c-section for my son, so I don't know if the pain of a vag hysterectomy is comparable to a vaginal birth. I would think it would be less, but I'm just guessing.

Good luck with your surgery!
