Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

Hi Ladies:
I am 23 hrs and counting until my TAH. I have a huge fibroid (no big worries there) and one 9cm mass on one ovary (I'm postmenopausal &54).
Has anyone had symptoms somewhat similar to this, had a TAH, and they didn't have any kind of cancer? I'd really love to hear about your experiences. It might help me get some sleep tonight presurgery.

Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

Many, many ladies have these problems without cancer. My best friend had a hugh fibroid and had bled really bad for a couple years before her surgery. She has heart problems so they really did not want to do surgery. Hers was NOT cancer and she is fine many years later.

Please let us know how things go as soon as you can.

Will be thinking of you,
Juanita

Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

My gyne/onc told me numerous stories of surgeries where large suspected cancers turned out to NOT be cancer! She said that she was often quite surprised because she had expected cancer when she went in there.

However, even if it IS cancer, it is not the end of the world. Really. We can surprise ourselves by how much we can deal with. Cancer is not a death sentence!

Please try to take this one step at a time (I know how hard that is!!). Let yourself only worry for short periods, then try to live in the moment.

Good luck with your surgery! I hope a gyne/onc will be there!

Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

I had a huge mass (over 10 cm), w/solid features and septated. I also had an elevated CA-125, thickened uterus, and family history as well as other risk factors (being Ashkenazic Jewish is a risk factor for ovarian CA).

Mine turned out to be an endometrioma, and the uterus was adenomyosis, and although they did say some of the uterine cells were "borderline," I actually turned out NOT to have had cancer after all. I was followed for a couple of years with CA-125s, just to be sure that they stayed down, but it's been over six years now, almost seven, and I've pretty much done just fine!

Hope this helps. Best wishes on your surgery tomorrow for a "good" outcome!

Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

I had a TAH/BSO on Jan 8 for possible ovarian cancer. My gyn felt what she thought was uterine fibroids at my regular yearly checkup in November. An abdominal/transvaginal ultrasound showed, instead, a 15 cm adnexal (at or near ovary) mass on/near my right ovary; it showed solid and cystic components. My CA 125 was normal. The mass turned out to be two pedunculated fibroids (outside the uterus, on peduncles -- stalks), and everything was benign.
Best wishes to you!

Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

(((Sammydo)))

Several years ago, my mother had a large (dinner plate sized) ovarian mass removed which turned out to be benign. I think everyone including the GYN/ONC who did her surgery was expecting it to be cancer, but it wasn't.

Here's hoping you get similar news!!

Any Non Cancerous Diagnoses?

Sammydo, I had a TAH in 2002 for three fibroids - no cancer there. Then in December 2007, I had both ovaries removed due to a 4-cm solid tumor on my left ovary and a 4-cm cyst on the right. No cancer there either, even though I had all of the symptoms of ovarian cancer, including a 25 lb. weight loss and extreme fatigue for months before the surgery. During the surgery, a tumor was also found in one of my fallopian tubes. That wasn't cancer either.

Best wishes with your TAH today. I hope you have an uneventful recovery and no signs of cancer.

s,

Lisa
