Need To Vent

okay, so my TAH is tomorrow. I woke up today totally nervous, shaking actually and very out of sorts.

I called my DR office to ask if they could call in a tablet of something to relax me..... ie xanax, Valium etc.

Was told in no uncertain terms NO. The doctor never does that.

I think that is ODD. Now I am worried about how he is going to manage my pain meds after surgery.

Does anyone else think this was a bit Brute - ish!

Well...your doctor is a man. They never truly understand. But from a doctors standpoint...the less medication you have in your system the better off when you're under anesthesia. My doctor was going to give me a relaxant prior to surgery but they called me into surgery so late they were running me to the surgery room. I know it's nerve racking. That is a normal feeling prior to ANY surgery. My thoughts are with you sweetheart!

This does seem a bit odd. I would think that the Dr. should be there for you through all stages of the surgery. I kind of freaked out before my surgery too. I was given Xanax. Good luck tomorrow and if your Dr. gives you any further trouble, just keep pressing him or her. They don't seem to realize that we have entrusted them to something so major in our lives and we need their help. We need to remember too that we are paying them, thus making them hired help. I am 3 weeks post op and actually already shopping for a new GYN Dr. because I don't feel mine has been very receptive and supportive. I hope that as soon as I am cleared at 6 weeks, I can request my records and move on.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, my doc is a female and a REALLY great lady. She has always been super understanding and sympathetic. However, she told me like 5 days ago I needed to stop taking my pain meds to prepare for the surgery. My TAH is tomorrow morning, so I have been in alot of pain for a few days now. Apparently she doesn't even want me taking ibuprofen or anything at all til then. She said that it can cause alot of problems with bleeding and healing through the surgery. So I would guess that your doctor has your best interest and safety in mind. Well, I hope that that is the case for your doctor anyway. I have had doctors (also women) that claimed to be compassionate lol, and it didn't seem like they cared at all how much pain I was in.

However, you will be just fine! We will be in there together! I will keep you in my thoughts! Good luck and see you on the post-op side!

Actually, I was given something for pain about 1 hr before surgery. Maybe once you check in, you can ask for something - because they will know how soon to give it to you.

Other than that, I hope you have a hand to hold on to TIGHTLY! And the prep nurses are pretty good folks to chat with - all girls.

HUGS and I know everything will be ok.

Hi Salami!! By the time you read this you will be back home I think. All will go well. No worries. I'll say a prayer for you. Although pain will be greatest at day one the nurses treat you like a queen. Take care of yourself! It will be over soon and you will be at home resting like me! Yes!!
