Unhappy - what could cause infection ? No help for chronic infection

I have had almost constant uti's since my Bladder Suspension surgery ( made necessary by my hysterectomy) .
A little over a yr ago I found a uro gyn who was able to 'takedown' the surgery making it possible for me to empty my bladder, however the infections continued and now after taking Cipro, Levaquin and Macrobid and getting no relief for this latest infection I was told there is nothing more that can be done for me. (the infections have been one to two a month for years)
When they culture the bacteria it shows the antibotics working against it but in my body they don't.
I can not get into my uro/gyn for over two months .
I do not have two full function kidneys and with no treatment I can guess where this is going . Is this normal to be treated like this and just stop all treatment ?
In yrs. past I have been hospitalized many times for kidney infections and the iv antibotics eventually got rid of them but I have just been brushed off here and they have left me with no antibotics and not even pain medicine to help with the pain.
I just don't understand that they are unwilling to try more than three antibotics and unwilling to refer me to a uro so I could get in due to this situation. Can anyone else relate to this treatment from their PCP's?
They treat me like these infections are my fault almost, saying they never heard of so many, but most have been cultured and prove actual infection and the one ultrasound shows a LOT of kidney damage.
My physician (nor myself) understands how medicine will work in the lab showing sensitivity but when I take it I will feel better for a few days then I start getting worse , almost like the bacteria becomes super strong feeding off the antibotic .
Thank you for any input, I know all here are dealing with serious problems many much worse than mine and I appreciate the time to read/answer.

what could cause infection ?

Hugs and more hugs to you!I have been having allmost constant UTI's since surgery also but mine is because of bladder injury caused by poor nursing care after surgery.I also had chronic uti's and kidney infection before surgery but that was caused by kidney stones that i developed while i was in iraq.my suggestion to you is to demaned that you be treated with iv antibiotics.if your doc wont then find one who will!you should not be in pain all the time from having an infection.they have also cultured all of mine and they allways show that i am on the right drugs but i all most allways end up needing iv gentamycin to get rid of it but it can hurt your kidneys so they don't like useing it.i am also seeing a uro in 2 weeks so hopefully they can help.

what could cause infection ?

Thanks Littlebratt for your reply.
I am so sick of these- mine were caused from a bad bladder suspension at first but when I finally found a uro/gyn to undo it it was somehow to late.
I wonder why they are not giving me iv's also, one of my kidneys is almost gone mostly just scar tissue left so I fear many more infections and it will not work at all.
I am sorry for your problems, I wonder how the doctor would feel dealing with this over and over!
they don't believe me since it will work on the bacteria in the lab they accuse me of not taking them on time/right/etc.
I tried to get into a urologist but the only one who takes my insurance is one I have went to and he also said there was nothing could be done after he did a bunch of expensive tests which resulted in infection that I had to go to urgent care with .
In yrs past I had the iv's but don't know what medicine was used.
I wonder if gentimycin could be used for me with my extensive kidney damage.
I so hope you get the help you need from your Uro visit in a couple of weeks I'll be thinking of you and sending good thoughts and prayers your way! Let me know how you are doing .
In a little over two months I do have an appt. with the uro/gyn who took down my bladder suspension so if I can go that long I hope he can help or refer me to someone who can.

Unhappy - what could cause infection ? what could cause infection ?

I have posted before but few have or have heard of my type of problem.
I am suffering from a uti infection, while on a antibotic I will get a new one resistant to the antibotic I am on at the time. Then a new one etc
I had a takedown of the bladder surgery a year ago.
It was supposed to stop the infections . It didn't .
I have a new Urologist who is trying to find the problem but so far we do not know any reason for this.
Again I am having to undergo extensive testing and so far nothing really stands out.
I am wondering if something along the line of durning surgery for suspension takedown and adheasion removal some how a hole was made in the bladder but it seems from the posts here that would cause leaking etc.
I have dealt with major problems due to bladder suspension surgery for years now and just feel I can not deal with it anymore. I have been to numerous doctors/specialists and they can't seem to help me.
Is it really possible I am the only person with this condition?
My kidneys are damaged and my kidney function tests show problems now.
The infections are harder to heal after the surgery performed to eliminate them well they are actually not healing just becoming more resistant and changing from one bacteria to another.
The Uro/gyn who did the surgery said all looks fine but only did a visual exam .
If anyone can shed light on this I'd appreciate it very much.
I am sick and tired of being sick and tired and hitting a dead end with doctor after doctor, they admit my life is in danger due to antibotic resistance and constant infections (hundreds of them backed up by urine cultures) but can offer no explanation.
Thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to read and answer this post.
Blessings , Abby

what could cause infection ?

Abby--

I am so sorry you are continuing to have such a miserable time with the infections. Have any of your doctors considered putting you on injected antibiotics for a longer period of time to keep the infections at bay? It makes you wonder why the pill form doesn't seem to work when the IV forms seem to do the job? Are you taking the meds at home differently somehow? [Like, do they need to be taken on an empty stomach or something like that?] Have the doctors asked you all these questions? Is the URO you are currently seeing planning on doing a longer course of antibiotics of a different form seeing as how the pill forms don't seem to work for you? Can you ask him/her to see what the plans are?
Why do you have to wait 2 months to see your UroGYN if you are having such severe problems now?

As you can see, there are a ton of questions I'd ask if it were me. I had 2 daughters who had major urinary tract problems as young children. They had vesicoureteral reflux and had to be on years' long courses of antibiotics to prevent any UTI's. I even was taught how to give antibiotic injections in order to allow my older one to leave the hospital early without an IV. (Yeah, that was fun--NOT.) Have you also considered seeing a nephrologist to determine the amount of damage done to your kidneys? It's another possible resource if you feel you are not being 'heard' by your current doctors.

If you feel truly ill and know you have a current infection, I would not wait until a doctor appointment to be seen. You can go to an emergency room to get the appropriate treatment to get rid of it.

what could cause infection ?

Thank you Orah Deb for your reply.
I am very careful to take the meds correctly and follow the doctors directions exactly as well as I want to get this fixed so badly. I have taken them for 10 yrs now almost constant and wonder if that is part of my problem.
I was set to have iv's at the hospital when they found out the bacteria had changed . This one is sensitive to Sulfa but my problem is when I take the antibotic that the bacteria is sensitive to it kills it but whlle on the medication I become infected with one that the medicine doesn't work on .
I tried to get in to see my UroGyn who did my last surgery , I told them how bad I was but it did no good.
I ended up going to a new Urologist who is doing much more testing and seems very concerned . He is not covered by my Insurance however but if he can help it is worth it.
I was born with kidney disease and a diabetic so I am sure that makes things worse.
This time I am on 14 days of antibotic and having imaging today.
I will have a cystoscope this month also.
So far I have not been to a nephroligst.
I have so far been to dozens of doctors and no one is able to figure this out. I was told the last operation would 'cure' my problems but actually they are worse now.
I just am starting to feel I am the only one with this problem and becoming so depressed I can hardly function and about to give up.
Sorry to vent so many of the ladies have worse problems than myself.
I asked about the mesh because I want no part of that, I am told it could be a path from another part of my body to my bladder that is doing this .
I do not leak any urine and can finally go normal which is a blessing after 23 years!
I hope your daughters problems are a distant memory now! My mom also struggled with me I was in the hospital four yrs from birth and on iv antibotics from the hospital every day for a few years. She never did them herself however.
I am sure I could do the shots myself if they would show me the correct way to do in the muscle as I think they have to be given. I have gave insulin injections which are very easy but imagine it is almost the same only a bigger needle
I also wonder if the scar tissue has grown back but I don't feel the pain and 'pulling' sensation I did before the surgery to remove it.

Thank you again OrahDeb, I do appreciate you taking the time to reply to me.

Blessings and Hugs,
Abby

what could cause infection ?

Hello Abby Rose,

I am so sorry to read of your suffering. If suffering wasn't bad enough, insensitive/unhelpful doctors add salt to our wounds.

I want to encourage you to see a nephroligst sooner rather than later. They are the ones you need to see, especially with the kind of kidney/bladder problems you are experiencing. Even though your new urologist seems to be taking your issues seriously, a consult with a nephroligst would be a good move.

I hope you start feeling a little better and keep us up-dated.
