Post-Op 26 days/learning about hormones

I had severe fibroids/UTIs for a year/felt bad/in perimenopause before my surgery. Couldn't exercise at all. Now feeling better after surgery 2/13/08 which was a TAH/BSO/Burch/Vaginal repair/Hernia repair. I was told everything was okay except they now tell me they found a sarcoma.

I'm just starting to read about Menopause/HRT & started drinking soy milk. I'm 48 now and at 46 had a "good" heart attack (no heart damage/heart disease/vessel in spasm and troponin<1.0) so Urogyn says I'm not a candidate for HRT.

What are hot flashes like? What should I be looking for? I was in perimenopause before surgery and would wake up at 2 AM with my chest burning up and soaked through my night clothes. Now that my ovaries are gone I sometimes get warm & wet but not hot & drenched like before.

What's a good way to "start out"? Anyone share experiences about what has been successful for you? I'm thirsting for knowledge.....

Post-Op 26 days/learning about hormones

Welcome

It sounds like you are having symptoms of menopause with the sweats and warm flushes.

Here is a link to some information about menopause and alternatives:

http://www.project-aware.org/

There are several things you can try, but everyone is different so it is by trial and error and some patience. The herbs and supplements may take several weeks to see results.

We also have a Resourse library at the top of the page to help with learning more about hormones and no hormones.

You will need to check with your doctor to see if any of the herbal alternatives are okay for you to take, as some herbs act like estrogen in the body.
