Anyone Been to Mayo Clinic Rochester?

Would like to know about the Dr.'s in Urogyn Dept. at Mayo Clinic. I have to wait until Apirl 9th for appt. I dont know anything about the Dr. I am seeing. Would like to hear someones insight. And how they felt about their experience. I don't know how I can handle waiting so long. I am in discomfort.

Anyone Been to Mayo Clinic Rochester?

I went to the Mayo to have mesh removed and they put in a urethral sling made from my own fascia for stress incontinence. The first doctor I saw there wasn't very helpful, so I decided to get another opinion from another urogyne there. That doctor was absolutely wonderful. E-mail me privately if you want to know the doctor's names.

I used to work there. There are good and bad ones. Most of them are pretty good, and they will get you the answer quickly. Good luck!

Anyone Been to Mayo Clinic Rochester?

I visited the Mayo in Rochester about two years ago and I did not find my dr. (urogyno.) to be very helpful. He suggested no mesh and also doing a hysterectomy at the same time as A&P repair to prevent further prolapse. I have since learned that having a hysterectomy has no direct effect on the success or failure of your prolapse repairs.

He also just seemed suprisingly clueless and insensitive as to the discomfort I felt daily. Not impressed. Did not go back. Perhaps I saw the wrong dr. You can e-mail me if you want the name of the one I saw.

Anyone Been to Mayo Clinic Rochester?

Hi Lillypie ,

I have to agree with the other ladies...unless you live in MN and don't mind waiting I wouldn't make the trip. I've had numerous hormonal/thyroid/gynecological problems and it seemed I just got textbook answers when I was there. The gynecologist that I saw seemed pretty clueless to perimenopause symptoms or how to treat them and the endocrinologist I saw said that it was not possible for me to be experiencing the things I was experiencing on the dose of Synthroid I was on.(That made me feel really good! ) It was very frustrating. However, like jgtalk said, there are good doctors and some not so good ones. , Mayo is not all that it is cracked up to be. I hope that your experience is better than mine was.

Let us know how it goes.

s and Blessings, Lisa

Thanks for Replies

Lisa:

I know what you are saying about Mayo. I have had a lot of issues since my Hysterectomy in 06. Saw an endocrin Dr. there and I wasn't impressed. He didn't care that my blood work didn't explain my symptoms. All of test results were either boarderline high or low and he suggested waiting until next year. I felt awful and he had no ideas or suggestions to help me feel better. very frustrating.

My urogyn Dr. moved out of state and I am planning on flying out to VA to have the surgery. I will stay over a week and then come home. I don't mind going the distance when the Dr. is so amazing. He cares so much about his work and the women he helps.

I was planning on going to Mayo but after my last experience 3 months ago, I am happy with my decision to travel to VA. I am also glad I could come to this board and ask questions. I just don't know how much longer I can take feeling so yucky..
I will keep you updated....

Hi Heather,

I think that you are making a wise decision. Having such a good relationship with a doctor and feeling confident in his/her care is a rare thing it seems. When do you plan on going to VA for your surgery? I'm sorry that you are feeling so badly and hope the appointment is soon.

Blessings, Lisa
