Mesh Erosion from Beginning

My mesh erosion started from the day of surgery. During my post-op check ups, he would groan and say that he didn't like that there was one spot not healing up completely. I was put on estrogen cream, but unfortunately, I get tired of it and stop after a couple of weeks.

The erosion seems to be getting wider, but there is no pain, no discomfort or discharge. If it wasn't for my husband saying that it is uncomfortable during sex, I probably wouldn't worry about it.

It has been six months since they put this sling infront of my bladder, should I start on the cream and be vigilant for 6 weeks? Or, should I call and make an appointment to have it trimed?

Opinions appreciated....Thanks

Mesh Erosion from Beginning

Beth--

I'm sorry you are another HysterSister having mesh erosion. It's yucky whether or not you feel pain. I'm sure your DH doesn't like it at all.

If you can't remember to use the extrogen cream to help with the tissue healing, I wonder if something like vagifem in the tablet form would be easier for you to remember to use? It's less 'messy' and somewhat more acceptable for some women in that respect. You can at least ask your doctor about it or another option like it perhaps?

The theory is that vaginal extrogen helps to 'plump' up the tissues and help 'heal' small eroded areas. It never worked for me but I do think it did help prepare the surrounding areas for surgery and helped keep me in the best 'shape' for that.

What I would NOT recommend even if you are not having pain with the erosion, is any type of in-office procedure where the doctor trims the mesh without the benefit of some type of anesthesia. I had that several times and it was awful each and every time. I still ::shudder:: each time I think about it. It was wretchedly painful for me. My 1st doctor was just trying to help me avoid having repeat surgery but it was truly NO favor at all.

I do hope you find something that helps you heal. Sending many +++ thoughts and extra good vibes.......
