TVH-all the details

Here are the boring details of my TVH July 16 for pre-cancer and high risk HPV:

I arrived at the hospital at 545...nervous and nauseous with fear. At 625 the nurse called me back to the pre-surgical room. The anesth. asked a few questions, and I kept telling him, ASSUME I'M NAUSEOUS!!!!! He was sweet and comforting. Asked if I had any more questions, I said, "Please be sure they're careful with me"....he promised he would. THen the nurse told me to undress, put the gown on and lay down on the bed. THen the anesth. came back in and started my IV. A nurse anesth had to have me sign special forms acknowledging that a hysterectomy would make me sterile.....duh. THen the most lovely nurse of all, stood by my side and said, I'm just here to hold your hand , so squeeze tight when you want to....her hands were so soft and warm...how comforting!! The next thing I knew they were wisking me off to the OR. WHen I got in there, I saw my dr.....she asked how I was doing...I said "ok, but scared". She asked if I had any last questions, I said ,"No, but please be careful...I have 4 kids"...she just smiled and said of course. A nuse then put a pillow under my knees, I said, "hey I'm too aware, help!! Then I remember someone put a yellow mask on my face and said breathe deep. THe next thing I remember, someone was asking me to rate my pain....well, I sure didn't want to underestimate so I said 4 1/2.
Then they were transporting me to my private room, which I was in by 10am!!! My husband was there, he said my dr. said she broke her all time record and had my uterus out in 11 minutes.
I slept most of the day, in virutally no discomfort at all. I had broth and jello to eat although I felt no hunger. Tues at 530am my catheter was removed....no discomfort at all. I was on a demerol pain pump until about 11am. Fianlly I pee'd at 1130am, not burny but my bladder felt heavy. As the day went on, it came easier. I kept waiting for all this gas to escape as everyone kept telling me it would!! It never happened!! Tues. at 7pm, my dr. said if I felt up to it, I could go home. OK!! I felt somewhat fuzzy from the anesth...similar feeling to a few beers!! Slept alot until Wed. pm, taking anti nausea and painkillers every 4 hours to avoid pain before it started. Finally decided to see how bad the pain was and stopped automatically popping pills. Well there wasn't any...I took otc advil for a day or so and have taken nothing since. On fri..4 days post-op, went to the pool with my kids and husband...I just sat in lounge chair. Since then, I've rested, not done any housework, but sat outside, watched TV , read and talked!!

I wish my experience on all the LIW. Thank you for reading my story.
