Hot Flashes!!

Have you tried Black Kohosh? My doctor recommended it until I could start HRT. I think it really helped me. I had to take it for several weeks to notice a difference but I did after a bit.

Hot Flashes!!

If you look in the drug store and health food stores there are some good menopause alternatives that you might try. Black cohosh in them are the ones that seem to offer the most help. The alternatives take weeks to build up and work so give it at least 4 weeks to see the full effects of it.

You might look at our Resources Library under the No-Hormone section for some help.

Hot Flashes!!

Hi... I had my hysterectomy on Feb. 11th & I too have sweats... starting usually in my middle back & then working upwards. I've been taking Black Cohosh, Evening Primrose Oil, Vitamin E & soy tablets & they are gradually getting better. None too soon for me because the sweats wake me at night & then I can't go back to sleep unless I shower... GGRRRRR.

Best of Luck To Ya!! Gail in S.D.

Hot Flashes!!

tammie68,

HI, Have you discussed HRT with your physician? I woke up in the recovery room after my surgery with my hormone patch already stuck to my abdomen. I still had some hot flashes until my hormones were balanced, but think it helped me.

Hot Flashes!!

Here are some suggestions of things that I have found to help with menopausal symptoms. There is some trial an error to find what works best for each of us, but here are some ideas.

chillow ~ it's great for sleeping. I've been using mine since 2 weeks after my surgery.

Fan ~ I put it on when I go to bed at night.

Vitamins ~ I highly recommend the hot flash cocktail

Hot Flash Cocktail

• 400 IU vitamin e (mixed d-tocopherols)
• 500-600 mg calcium citrate with 400 IU vitamin d
• 200 mg magnesium citrate
• 500 mg vitamin c with bioflavonoids
• Omega-3 fatty acids (equivalent of 360 mg DHA & 240 mg EPA) (I’m using epo 2600 mg and flaxseed oil 1000mg)

I started with the hot flash cocktail and I found what works best for me is natural progesterone cream and natural estriol crème. Along with Evening Primrose Oil, a multiple vitamin, and calicum

A suggestion .. if you are going to use natural progesterone cream I highly recommend Dr John Lee's book what your doctor may not tell you about menopause.

I also found melatonin to help with sleeplessness and ky liquid beads help with vaginal dryness.

I hope this helps..

Some relief from hot flashes

I have started drinking a glass of soy milk a day for almost a week now & then drinking a cup of Valerian Root & Peppermint tea right before I go to bed. I really slept good last night & only woke up once to use the "little girls" room, LOL. I like the fact that they are both natural products & unlike HRT are not known cancer causers.
Also take Evening Primrose, flaxseed capsules, Vitamin C & calcium everyday. The soy also helps keep your bones strong so thats a plus too but if you do try the soy milk... I prefer the chocolate or the vanilla.. the original is plain GROSS, unless mixed with chocolate.
After my 6 week checkup, I asked my Dr. if I could do some Spring cleaning & she said yes but take it easy at first. I washed all the curtains & rehung them & washed the 1 wall in the kitchen & the next day my incision hurt again!! Also my abdomen was swelled more after this cleaning for a couple days. So not going to get quite as ambitious again for a few more weeks now! Otherwise I'm doing great.
