Vertical/Horizontal incision?

I am really wondering now... I haven't had a chance to speak with my Dr and we will not meet until the day before my surgery. I assumed that I would be having a horizontal incision... but then, someone posted something about having a T-shaped-scar due to build up of scar tissue... Now, that's all I can thinkk about...

Did anyone go in expecting a horizontal incision and wind up with a vertical?

Gosh, I would hate to have another scar on my stomach... I have already had 3-sections and a myo and a tubal ligation... I am scared that maybe I am not a candidate for horizontal at this point...

It does, thank you so much... somewhere I read that the "T" in TAH refers to the scar shape... That's all I need is a vertical scar as well as the horizontal one I already have...

Vertical/Horizontal incision?

TAH is total abdominal hysterectomy, not T shaped scar.

Vertical/Horizontal incision?

I'm so glad you asked this question. . My doctor told me that my incision would be horizontal but now I wonder if he could/would change his mind at the last minute??? He can't use my c-section incision because I had hernia surgery also and they put in a mesh sheeting to prevent furture hernia's. He told be my new incision will be about 2 inches above my previous incision. I don't want to add another scar to my body either, I already battle, slightly, with body dismorphic disorder.

Vertical/Horizontal incision?

My doctor said she would only ever do a horizontal incision. She said if I chose another surgeon instead of her to beg, plead, bribe, do whatever it took to get a horizontal incision and not a vertical incision. She said a horizontal incision heals much better with less complications. Hope this helps and best of luck with your surgery.

Medical & Health reasons for shape of incision

The doctor may not want to do a bikini incision if you're not flat stomached because any folding of the skin can cause serious problems with healing and can create incredible areas for fungal or bacterial infections. You worried about scarring? ....guess what you'll look like after healing from THAT.
Also, it depends on what they might need to do AND see while they're in there. I am most certainly not going to be concerned about scars....open me up to my sternum if you need to!!! I'd rather be scarred and alive than unscarred and dealing with metastasized cancers.
There are serious medical reasons for the way surgeons cut, so let them do the job they were trained for.....just communicate your concerns and let them know your preference if that's a medically viable option.
