What to buy at the grocery store to prepare?

I am scheduled for my LAVH/BSO in 3 days and am trying to get everything in tip top shape prior to heading to the Castle, and to prepare for the return and recovery at home.

I would like to hit the grocery store and stock up on foods that will be comforting, settling, bowel pleasing, etc. and my girlfriends are all asking what they can bring to pitch in.

I wondered if you all had hints on what is settling, comforting, etc. to the body after the procedure. Otherwise, DH will be asking what to pick up from Taco Bell every night.

I appreciate the suggestions!
Blessings

What to buy at the grocery store to prepare?

Hello Beatles Brat,

Ok I liked soups, dried fruit ( it helped with the bm thing after), chicken breast and easy to cook pasta items. I had made some meals ahead. Pot pies were also good. Do not forget a sweet treat you like, mine was chocolate. Let your girlfriends choose a dish that they really like to make, that fits with how you are feeling. This is not the time to try new food items.

Get some things that you will enjoy, just keep your meals balanced.

If you have to do bowel prep, don't forget the baby wipes and the A&D. Both really help so you are not as sore. Pick up your favorite clear liquids as well.

Hi Beatlesbrat,
make sure you have easy to prepare dinner food, prunes and/or prune juice, other fruit (depending on what is in season that is), um ... maybe a treat or two that you wouldn't normally buy - a frozen yoghurt or similar maybe.
Foods that are easily digestible, that you are used to (so they won't upset your digestion) & easy for you or your DH to prepare.
Often as the day progresses you will be feeling more tired & sore, so don't imagine that you will standing preparing a stirfry etc when all you can do is lie down.
All the best,
Lyn

Ah, first, to stop hubby from stopping at Taco Bell...remind him that they use Grade D beef...that is the grade that is used for dog food. No joke.

Okay, now onto good stuff....

I prepared a few sauces and froze them.......lamb ragu as well as tomato sauce in invidual freezer servings. That way, I could cook some pasta and heat up the sauce.

I also had several boxes of dried prunes....remembered how good they really are.

mmmm, yummy! All I can think of is how they have the little chihuahua on their commercials. hmmm....

Love the individual sauce ideas! That would be so easy for DH to heat up.

Everyone also mentions dried prunes and prune juice. I wrote it down but am a little leery of prunes. Haven't had them in years and haven't had the desire to, but don't want to suffer because I am a big baby and refuse to eat them. Do they really help, and should I get over it???
HUGS all!

Give them a try, especially the "orange essence" prunes - they actually are really good! It was hard to stop with just a few every day.

Prunes really do help. After I had my back surgery I could not go for 3 days and I had been taking stool softeners twice a day and still nothing. I had my mom buy me some prunes and prune juice and bring them over and within a few hours I was able to go. I actually had the opposite problem suddenly. For me they are very powerful.
