SAH on 3/24 and I'm freaking out!

I'm really freaking out as the date of my SAH (due to Endo/Adenomyosis/uterine polyps) approaches. I feel so stressed out and filled with anxiety! Preparing for my leave from work was hectic, my husband was a no show at my pre-op appt w/dr (he came home from work and took a nap instead) and he's been arguing w/our teenaged son constantly, my sister has been blabbing to all our mutual friends that I'm having a hyst., and tomorrow is Easter and I'm dreading having to go to my in-laws when I really just want everyone to leave me alone.

I've lived with the Endo for 20 years but since being diagnosed with Adenomyosis 3 years ago, the pain, bleeding and fatigue has gotten progressively worse. I can't tolerate treatment with hormones and I don't think I could make it another 10 or so years until menopause so surgery is the only "cure" but I'm terrified that something will go wrong during the surgery and I'll end up worse off than I am now.

I'm fighting the instinct to jump in my car, head to the airport and run away! Thanks for letting me vent.

emipie,

First off take a deep breath, then you need to talk to your family and let them know what you will need from them during this surgery. I had a Freak Out night with my DH and after I told him my fears, things got better.

Don't drive away from surgery, though I tried to talk my husband into taking me any where but......

You are having very normal feelings about this whole event.

Keep talking with your sisters on this site.

Hi emipie,

We share surgery dates. I'm so sorry that your family is making you so stressed. I know the feeling about the dreaded dinner with in-laws. On the other hand, I'm going to appreciate the opportunity to tell them not to bother coming to the hospital. I'm only going to be there a short time, let me have peace while I can.

SAH on 3/24 and I'm freaking out!

Hi Emipie!
I share surgery "week" (March 26) with you and am sorry to hear you are going into it with all of this extra stress.
My DH tends to be a little stand offish when it comes to things like this and I have guided him by introducing him to Mister Hyster Sisters and making him read it! He now understands a lot more and is much more helpful already.
I think it would be a great idea to sit down with your DH and tell him all you are feeling. He can, and should, be your biggest advocate right now.
I agree with kj113....keep talking to your sisters on the site....there are many, many, many, of us and we are here for you!
HUGS!!!!!!!!

Emipie, you will feel SO much better very soon! Be strong with your family. This is the one time in life when it has to be all about YOU and you alone. You need to take good care of yourself to be sure you heal well, then you can return to caring for your family.

I had an SAH in November, and really was a life changing experience. Not only is the continual bleeding gone forever, but I also take better care of myself emotionally now, too.

SAH on 3/24 and I'm freaking out!

Please don't be worried. I know it's hard, since I was a wreck the night before my surgery. I felt the same. I didn't sleep a wink. Getting to the hospital was the worst. it's true tho, worrying is worse than it actually is. I was amazed how smoothly and easily it all went. Another woman who was going through it was with me right from admission, that helped. I don't even remember anything! The anaesthesiologist was putting in my IV, my surgeon was explaining the type of cut she was going to do, next thing I knew I was in recovery. Over!! I had mine a week ago, and I feel great. Still stiff and sore.. still some pressure, but I think the first two days are the hardest, and its not even pain. They are great about pain management, so that was never an issue. Please try and relax and think... no more periods.. and if you are getting a total hysto, no more pap tests!!

SAH on 3/24 and I'm freaking out!

Thank you all sooooo much for your words of wisdom and support! I'm feeling much better mentally today and spending time with my family (even my in-laws) actually helped take my mind off things for most of the day.

I'm resigned to the fact that there's no turning back at this point and although I won't be spending the next few weeks on the run in the Carribean, hopefully I can make that trip when I feel better and I won't have to worry that I'll attract sharks in the water

Happy Easter everyone, and thanks again!

Em
