Severe Pain after intercourse just over 3.5 months Post op

Hi Please help! I am 30 years old. Just had a partial Hysterctomy just over 3.5 months post op. Last night after "normal" intercouse I had the worst pain deep inside. when I push on my lower stomach area on the right side it is very tender. The pain was sharp like a cramp...almost as though I had bowel movement cramps real bad. The pain lasted for well over an hour. Today I feel very swollen inside like the vaginal wall is swollen. When I urinate I feel pressure in the rectum area. Also When I sit down I feel pain in the rectum area. Please help if anyone has every had this same problem. Thank you all for you time. Called the Dr...not much help...said it could be scare tissue????

I'd suggest making an appointment and go see the DR. It may not be a serious issue, but I'd rather have him do an exam than make a diagnosis over the phone. Don't worry about taking up his time; you're paying for it.

Hi GaDeann
I'm sorry to hear about the pain you're having. I just want to make sure I understand your situation. By partial hysterectomy, do you mean you kept your cervix? That is what we commonly understand to be the case when that is said, but some women mean that they kept their ovaries.

If you didn't have your cervix removed that would mean you don't have a vaginal cuff, which is one of the main concerns with intercourse. There are other things that can cause pain with intercourse, like granulation tissue(tissue that doesn't heal right and needs treatment).

I'm a little disappointed that your dr didn't ask you to come get this checked out. Did s/he say anything about how long to wait to see if this clears up on it's own? It is possible that you could have soreness and swelling occur, but it seems unlikely at this point unless there is something that is clearly not healed. We're all a little different in what rate we heal though.

You could always wait a week and try again to see if it has gotten better. I would definitely let this soreness and swelling clear up before you try again. If it doesn't seem to be getting better please don't hesitate to call your dr and ask to be seen. If your dr doesn't seem willing to look at it for you I would look for another dr so you can know what you're dealing with.

I hope you get to feeling better soon. Please let us know what you find out.
's, Rita

I still have my cervix. For the most part I had a very good recovery. I am back to running, working out and working 40+ hours a week. I have an appt. with a uroligist due to some discomfort I have had urinating. I feel like maybe my pain is from my bladder. I did have a blood clot pressing on it when I went in for my two week check up (post-op). The Dr did say to come in and see him if the pain did not heal up by the middle of the week. He is a great Dr. Prior to finding this wonderful site I thought I was all alone and being a baby. Thanks to all!!!
