Normal?? 12 days post op still in bed A LOT

Shouldn't I be spending less time in bed by now?? Day 12 post-op

I read all these posts about ladies that are going shopping or WORK already and it makes me wonder. My doc had a checkup at day 7 postop and is happy with my progress. I had TVH and TOT bladder sling. It took me a while to get pain under control and am now on day 3 of Ibu's and Percoset at night. The Ibu's help a little but not a whole lot. I just constantly ache everywhere. When I get go for short walks in the house I feel sharp pains in my side, just as things heal I suppose.

It seems like everytime I get up and move around for longer than 5-10min of strolling around the house I hurt and crawl into bed. Last Friday I was up for about 5 hours while having satelite installed and was laid up for the rest of the day and ALL of Saturday just feeling awful. For every hour up I spend 6 in bed!

Am I still in the normal range here....

Hi Nicole - I think it's different for everyone. For me, the energy came and went... sometimes I felt great and could do some shopping, but usually felt pretty tired if I did. It literally took me three months to feels like I was able to get back to a normal routine - and for me, I think it's been greatly related to my hormone levels. I know that even though I feel like things are good today, my body is in a transition period and this could change.

Listen to your body. If it tells you to spend the day in bed, then spend the day in bed. Whatever shopping or housework that needs to be done will still be there tomorrow. Try not to rush your recovery and be sensitive to what your body is telling you.

If you're worried about your pain, call your doctor and have him/her check it out. You can never be too careful and there is NO stupid question.

Hang in there and take it easy.

Hi, I was still resting on the 12th day. I am 5 weeks and I still can't do much, I have to lay down alot, I can't get around to well without pain so I just take it easy. If I do go to the store its a short visit and I just started getting out like a week ago. I hope you feel better soon. Lisa

I did think the same thing. I went in 2 days before you and I am still confining myself to the sofa. Because I have to. My body is not letting me get up much. I get up when nature calls, then do a few minor chores like CAREFULLY put laundry or dishes away then sit back down. I still feel pain at my incisions, but not achey. So maybe you ought to call DR about the aches.

My body keeps telling me it's too soon to go shopping, or go back to work. Which is killing me because Macy's is just down the street and I cant wait to get some spring clothes !! : ) And I cant stop thinking about planting flowers. And I wanted to plant a lilac tree this year. I wont be able to do that, I'll just have to pick it out and have DH plant it. The weather is starting to break here in the mid atlantic.

When you say "It seems like everytime I get up and move around for longer than 5-10min of strolling around the house I hurt and crawl into bed." Ditto for me too. I started taking vitamins this week. Makes a big dffierence. It looks like the majority of us are at about the same progress points as far time for recovery.

I did go shopping for an hour after my post DR appointment. I should not have because it was too much too soon. Then the next evening we visited freinds for dinner and died easter eggs. I helped clean up for 10 min and hid easter eggs in the house with the kids for 5 min. This was too much too soon too. This set me back a few days. I was hurting so bad.

I am starting to feel better every day. But still have to take it easy. I do not know how anyone can go back to work after 2 weeks. Maybe getting there for them is easy. I have a real journey to get to my desk. It's not like I just park my car and my desk is 30 feet away. It's more like 1/3 of a mile away. I have a real hike and have to go through checkpoints, elevators and turnstiles. Ugh. It's a pain.

The variances in recovery times have to do with what when on in the operating room too. How many stitches were given and how tight they were ?? And the procedure itself. Overall I am taking good care of my self, trying to eat the right things etc.. I am not rushing it. Just stay down and heal and before you know it you will be up and around.

HI
I still get very tired and it's been 2wks. today. I have occasional pains and crampyness but I think it's part of recovery. I am leaving the house today for the first time. My girlfriend is taking me while she does errands. I feel like my dog does at the prospect of going bye-bye.
Rest is what your body needs and yes, it is frustrating. You will better soon.

Writing this from my bed!

I am writing this from my bed, where I plan to stay all day... just like yesterday.

I am back in bed because I OVERDID IT on Tuesday, running errands and doing vigorous housecleaning.

Lesson learned!

Thanks ladies,y now I feel better.

I know it is getting better each day. I think maybe because I am always doing something and sometimes several things at the same time it is hard to just walk by and NOT do things. DH is watching my like a hawk and is so good about taking care of me.

I just started feeling like a couch potato!! LOL But I figure I don't have anything better to do...right! My plan is to start increasing more starting week 5,6 and 7 then I am scheduled to get back to work.

Geeze TunaCat. I hope you feel better : ). I know how that feels. It took me about 3 days to get better from over doing it. 3 days of stillness and not disturbing the abdomen. I have to get out today to register for classes. But it's not far and the parking lot to the office is very close. I have tons to do from this sofa so I am not bored or even close to it. I'll have alot to do from here next week too.

I found that Vitamin A rich foods are good for skin cell growth and healing. So I have been eating lots of sweet potatoes, green peppers, carrots, eggs. Any fruit and veg rich in color. I am taking my multivitamin and zinc daily too. I am doing anything I can possibly think of to get better faster.

SOOO know how u feel Nicole. Nothing worst then seeing the sun go down and knowing u accomplished NOTHING for the day. Thats when I found myself granny walking it downstairs to fix papers on the computer desk or fixing pillows on the couch lol I feel like THE biggest couch potato but sometimes I get so sore that even fixing the comforter on my bed and the millions of pillows is a feat. I have good and bad days. I just have to learn not to overdue it on the good days and on the bad days take it a lil easier those days.

But my goal is to make it to the mall or even Target. I tried shopping online and it wasnt the same lol I wanna push a cart and try on clothes =) Found myself wearin a lot of sweat pants and even my maternity pants. I tried jeans oneday and it may as well of been a corset! So decided anything that couldnt fit my lil pillow inbetween the waist band and my belly i just cant wear it yet =).

Take it easy hun!
