LSH recovery questions
hello, sisters, I'm mountain dew..why? It's 3 am and after 5 usernames already taken that was what I was drinking! I had a lsh 3 days ago. I am 26 with 3 young children and I spotted for 8 weeks with ALOT of severe pain. I have ben this way for years and choose this routr for relief. I got released from the hospital after staying one night. The night I can home I started running a fever, so I am on antibiotics. I feel good, but my left incision is Very sore. The doc said that was where the largest instoment went in, so that was expected. I got really angry today though, I wanted to get up and clean house and my family yelled at me, but I couldn't lay still. Thats when the doc prescribed me zanex. My incisions started inching tonight and I can't sleep. Is all this normal? What do I do know? Why can't I just rest like they want me too? Will I hurt myself by being up even If I feel good? Thanks for the input, I am glad to be here...I have heard alot of good things about you!...

LSH recovery questions
Welcome to our club... Insomnia is very common after surgery... What do you do now? You rest as much as you can, when you can.. Is there someone to help you with the children? I pretty much napped my way thru the 1st week, and watched late night TV all night.. but then I didn't have any children to deal with. Do not clean.... you can hurt yourself and have life-long problems with adhesions if you over do. It doesn't hurt you to be up, but do nothing more than walk around and don't do too much of that right away.. I walk all the time and when I got home I would try to go for a walk and get dizzy and tired and have to come home and lay down.
Best wishes... and did I say "Take it easy?"

LSH recovery questions
Hello Mt. Dew!
I am 8 days post op (surgery was march 20). The 3rd day is when my incisions started to itch also. I've had a hard time sleeping since my surgery also. I took 2 advil PM's about an hour and half ago and as you can see, I am still up. If I do got sleep, it's only for about 2 hours MAX.
Anyway...you need to get up and walk around. It helps with getting a BM and then staying regular. On my 4th post op day I drove to target to exchange something and then I went to safeway to do some grocery shopping. I had my son push the cart and he unloaded the groceries in to my trunk and brought them in to the house.
On the 5th post op day, I didn't really do anything...but still made sure to walk around quite a bit.
6th post op day, I vacuumed. if you have carpeted floors or a heavy vacuum I would not recommend this. But, I was vacuuming hardwood floors, so it there was NO resistance. I also went to Staples and Walmart for some school supplies (new quarter starts on Monday for me).
The seventh post op day I went to both of my kids parent teacher conferences and then ran out to my college campus to the bookstore. I also did some laundry and vacuumed a couple carpeted floors.
The 8th day...who knows what it holds??!?!
From what my Dr. told me, after a week, the only restriction I would have would be no sex and no lifting over 20 pounds. I'm still going to be as careful as I can though.
I hope that helps! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

LSH recovery questions
Hey Mountain Dew!
You've come to the right place. One thing I would recommend, from my own, most recent experience...try not to drink the carbonated beverages. Last week I had my first soda pop since surgery...my belly swelled up and I had terrible pain. Please do keep coming back to this site. I certainly have found much comfort here. Try to rest and not rush.

LSH recovery questions
Thanks for all the tips! I tried to play super woman today and I didn't take my pain pills...i was fine remember...Well after the 35 ride to the docs office,(re check from the fever) i couldn't get out of the truck. My family was so mad that I had done all the things the doc said not to. I got there and got a huge lecture from the doc about all that go wrong. so..I am now trying to take it easy. I tried to go sit at my son's baseball game, but when he scored, I screamed and cheered...and COUGHED! That was when I left..it hurt so bad!! I am going to rest...to be honest I am alittle sore after trying to play super woman!!

Mountain Dew, do you have a tummy pillow? It will help to keep one on hand all of the time. Please do take care of yourself. I find it hard to sit still but keep reminding myself this is for my ultimate good . . .

LSH recovery questions
when my dr released me from the hospital, he did not give me any restrictions except sex and heavy lifting. and those restrictions were only for two weeks. i was walking, doing light house cleaning, driving and doing other things from the day i came home. it all depends on how you feel. i have had 5 abdominal surgeries, only 1 being a lap...and i have never been told i had scar tissue or adhesions. i think if you are more prone to them..rest is the best thing. if you arent...do what you feel you are up to do within reason.

LSH recovery questions
I'm on day 3 post op from LSH. I really wanted to sweep the floor in the kitchen but I will not do housework I keep telling myself. I'm feeling really good today. I have only had 2 regular 200mg ibuprofen in the last 6 hours. What did the doctor tell you about what the risks were if you push it too much? Mine didn't tell me anything I'd like to know what they are. I know I've seen adhesions mentioned on the board.
Mine just told me no housework or lifting and very minimal stairs avoid them if I can and to walk so I've been pacing the halls some. I did manage to sleep fine last night but I did take a percocet. I'm going to just take ibuprofen from now on. I was slightly nauseated this morning I'm thinking that could be the percocet.

LSH recovery questions
I had my LSH on 3/5 and the doc told me no heavy lifting for 2 weeks, no mowing the lawn (I don't recall her saying anything about vacuuming) and no sex. I was up and walking the next morning in the hospital, taking my IV for a stroll and the worst thing that happened was I stubbed my toe on the darn thing. When I got home, I just wandered, napped, watched TV and ate. The incisions still itch a bit, mostly because I've got little tag-ends of stitches sticking through, but it's not unbearable.
I was careful, for the most part, but I did do a few things I probably shouldn't have, such as rebuilding a computer from the motherboard up and going for extended outings, in the first week. I was driving by 1 week (doc said when I got off pain pills, but I'd been driving on the same pain pills for months prior to surgery). I did some light housework but nothing that would require awkward positions, like scrubbing the shower, and I did fine.
The one thing I really noticed about sleeping is that if I napped/rested/played couch potato for the day it was very hard to sleep at night. As long as I had something that engaged my attention, even if it wasn't strenuous, and I was working my little brain problem-solving then I had no trouble getting to sleep. Whether pulling out the kids' xbox and playing video games or trying to design a plan for world peace works for you depends on what kinds of things you're interested in. I found that debating politics with my parents was good for a couple hours of intense mental/emotional stimulation.
Good luck with your recovery and just listen to your body when it says it doesn't want to move that way or if it's had enough, even if the job is left half done. You can always come back and finish it later.
