Is estrogen making me fat?

I am on vivelle dot .75 and feeling very well.
However, I had gained about 9 pounds after the surgery, and have only managed to lose 2. Now I am stuck on this weight.
Does being on estrogen cause this weight problem?
If anyone has gotten off of estrogen, did it help???
Thanks!
Grace

Is estrogen making me fat?

I think it causes a little fluid retention or weight gain for me. I just exercise and watch the carbs to keep it down. I started on .075 patch and now on .025 and noticed some loss of weight.
I would rather put up with the few extra pounds than to have the horrible hot flashes. I think the key is the lowest dose that you can manage your symptoms on. I had to be on the higher dose in the beginning, but over the years I have been able to wean lower.

Here is a link on HRT and weight gain:

Is estrogen making me fat?

I have been using estrogen patches since my surgery, and they seem to cause fluid retention in me, too. I'm up about 4lbs since surgery, with very little change in eating habits. If anything, I'm eating less than pre-op. The reason I think it's fluid is that the weight gain happened literally overnight. No way I put on 4lbs of fat in 24 hours!

I agree with SuzyQ that I'd rather have a few extra pounds than hot flashes!!

Thank you for your replies. I'm thinking about getting off the estrogen to see if it helps. I just don't want any hotflashes~
I probably do need to eat more protein and exercise more also, but I have not been taking in many calories, and still not losing...it's kinda depressing....

Anyone else out there with some ideas?

Have you ever tracked your calorie intake for a few days? It's possible that you're not eating enough, which drives your body into "starvation mode", and makes your body determined to hold on to every calorie.

Is estrogen making me fat?

I was using an Oestrogen patch called Fematrix 80 and I looked bloated and I could see it especially in my mid section and in my face !!!
I have now cut the patch in half to 40 and it seems to have helped a little I don't look as bloated in my body and in my face so it was definately fluid retention I must have had. My clothes fit me more comfortably now and I am only having a few hot flushes.
I aim to come off the patch by the time I am 50 as I went on it after having my ovaries removed at aged 42.

Now I am getting older I have accepted I will never be the British size 8 I use to be but as long as I eat healthily and exercise I will learn to love my new found curves love handles and all. On the plus side my boobs have increased by 2 cup sizes since surgery I am now a 36C was 34B.

I believe balance is the key to a healthy weight. Think about it...women in their 20's are at the highest estrogen level but most of them are not fat. When your estrogen level gets low, you get the belly fat. Look at post-menopausal women, they have the pouches in front. That is from low estrogen. Will it help you cut back on estrogen? I don't believe it will. I think we need to strive for balance. Just my

I agree somewhat but I find that having too much Oestrogen can have the opposite effect.
I am 45 and was 42 when my ovaries were removed I was fine for a while on the higher dose but as you get older your body should not have the level of Oestrogen you would have had in your 20's.

I am much better just having the lower dose I was plunged into Surgical Menopause at 42 almost 3 years later I do not have the belly fat you are talking about because I have kept myself fit and have a trim stomach.
If you don't exercise you will get the belly fat often the Menopause is used as an excuse for alot of things but if you look after yourself eat healthy and exercise you can still look good.

I was bloating up on too much Oestrogen so not good for me but everyone is different and yes it is about getting the right balance for your body and only staying on hormones for the shortest possible time and at the lowest dose you can manage.

Is estrogen making me fat?

Thank you for replies. I am 49, divorced, and would like to get married again, so I guess I have selfish reasons to want to look trim and fit. Well, I guess good health is something to be desired no matter what. I know I need to exercise more and eat better. I do believe I will need to be on the estrogen for a while..
My dr. wants me to add progesterone....I wonder what that would do to my weight? I feel fine without it.
Thanks again for the thoughtful replies.
