swollen painful breast

I wondered if anyone could give me some insight. My left breast only has become swollen, heavy and very painful. It's been that way for about two weeks. I went to the dr. and she didn't feel any lumps but noticed the size. I'm starting to look lopsided! She ordered an ultrasound, but I haven't had it yet. It's been over three years since my hysterectomy. The only thing I've changed is my patch, from vivelle to clamera, but that was back in Jan. Anyone have any clues?

Hi bmsteach Did you have the ultrasound yet? When was the last time you had a routine mammogram? I would be getting it checked out.

I hope you'll have good news for us.

I had a friend who had painful, enlarged breasts. She had a mammogram and blood work done. She found out that she has hyperthyroidism (not sure on the spelling.) She now takes medicine and the breast pain is gone.

Well, usually hormonal imbalance will cause both breasts to enlarge or be painful, not both.

I have never had a mammogram. I am only 32. I ended up having to cancel my ultrasound because of a family emergency. My breast is still swollen but not as painful. Someone suggested it might be a cyst. I need to reschedule the ultrasound I guess. Thank you all for your imput.

I had the same thing happen several years ago. I also had redness and it felt hot to the touch. It was an infection of the milk ducts. They gave me antibiotics and it cleared up right away. Definately go see your Dr. and get everything checked out as soon as possible!
