Urinary Urgency

It has been 4 weeks after my TAH and tvt sling. I am on antibiotics for a bladder infection. I had to wear a catheter for 9 days after my TAH. I thought the peeing was getting a little better but today I have had to go all day. I hurts when I pee and I think I am done and than WHAM I have to go again. I have lost my urine 3 times already today and gone through 3 pairs of pants. If I don't make it to the bathroom right away I loose it.

Anyone else having the same problems?

Urinary Urgency

Robyn,

It sounds to me like a combo. of a UTI and bladder spasms. If your doctor put you on a relatively mild antibiotic then your UTI may not be getting better on it. I am 2 1/2 weeks out from a TLH and TOT sling and have had the same bladder symptons. On Tuesday I finished off the antibiotic that my doctor had prescribed to stave off a UTI when I was discharged. My symptoms never improved while on it. Two nights ago I couldn't sleep for more than an hour without having to get up and rush to the bathroom. After I couldn't pee anymore I still had a painful urge to go that kept me up the rest of the night.

I had a urine culture done yesterday and have a nasty infection. My doc prescribed a medicine for spasms and a stronger antibiotic for the UTI. Today is the first day that I have been able to urinate without wincing since I had a catheter removed a week after surgery. The pain isn't gone, but is so much better.

Look after yourself and get onto your doctor about relieving your symptoms. There's no reason for you to suffer this badly. Just know that I feel your pain and will send good wishes your way!

Urinary Urgency

Hi Becca thank you for responding. I was on macrobid when I had the catheter in but now I am on a stronger one. I am allergic to many medications so there is not a lot they can give me. I am also taking something for the spasms but only twice a day. Maybe I should be taking more than one. I have been on the antibiotics for 4 days now. Ugh I can't take it.

Urinary Urgency

Hey Robyn,

What med. did they put you on for the spasms? I was originally prescribed Uristed and then they upped it to Vesicare when the Uristed did nothing. Don't know if you can take the Vesicare since you can't take many meds., but I do know that it's supposed to help with the urgency that results from the spasms. Can you take Motrin? I only needed the 800mg tablets of Motrin that my DR prescribed for surgery pain for a couple of days. Since the bladder symptoms, I've been trying to take it on a regular basis and I've found that it at least takes the edge off. Hang in there!

Urinary Urgency

Hi gals I hope you don't mind if I join your disscussion. I have had the same urgency problems in the past and now after surgery. My doctors intructions were to re-potty train myself (sounds silly I know) but heres what she said. Don't allow yourself to go to the bathroom before a 2 hour span is up, so say you get up at 6:00 don't allow yourself a bathroom trip until 8:00. I you feel the urgency, sit very still and squeeze your bottom muscles like your holding a bm (gross, sorry) then slowly realease , repeat if the urgency is still there. Even if you leak urine inbetween the 2 hour span don't allow a full void, she said this will reprogram your bladder. Once a 2 hour span is mastered up the time to 3 hours inbetween bathroom breaks. So far this method has helped me, I am still on a 2 hour span. Ask your doctor about this (potty training method) it may help. It may only work after your uti is cleared. Best Wishes

Urinary Urgency

I am just taking the uristat. I was taking 800 mg of motrin when I had the catheter in but now I am only taking a little bit since I am not really in pain. I guess I am going to have to try taking more to see if maybe the swelling is getting worse or something. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

Northwest35: I was holding it for 2 hours but today things seem much worse. I am not that happy with this whole sling thing and think that is the problem.

Yeah I'm not sure about the whole sling thing either, but I hope it gets better with time. I think just the hyster would have been easy, its all the other repairs that seem to take much longer to heal and get used to .
