Do you have to do it? I don't know what surgery you had but i could hardly go 20 miles at thtat point of my recovery... I have family 200 miles away and put them off until the 4 wk point.

Postpone it!!If I had to do a trip I think I would try to make a bed in the back so I could lie down with lots of pillows.I can not sit. The car bumps hurt. What car will you be in?Get one of those donuts.Maybe get that swelly belly thing.Best is not to go yet.I want to visit my mom 700 miles but I can hardly stand a 20 minute drive. Is this a need to go?

I have been to visit relatives (I drove) for a short weekend - it is a little over 450 mile round trip - at the end of my second week. I have also been back at work for a week now, and I drive at least 400 miles a week for work. I have no abdominal incision, though, so I know I am different than you.

My biggest suggestion is to have a soft tummy pillow between your tummy and the seatbelt. The seatbelt is MEAN!

It also helps if you have a pillow for in the small of your back for support. That is the part on me that hurts like crazy after a longer trip.

Also readjust your car seat often. The last thing you want to do is to sit in one spot without stretching muscles for that long. You will never stand again!

Good luck. Don't do anything that you do not feel comfortable with. You are the one who lives in your body and knows what feels alright to you.

Hi,

I would postpone it if I were you....my surgery was abdominal and all the bumps really hurt me still, cannot think I could be in a car that long and driving

we had to take a 300 mile trip now (my 3rd week) we there was no way I could so we left it for week 4 or 5th.....besides sometimes I even get dizzy being in the car too long...

good luck,
blessings,

I agree. Even if the doctor says it's okay, doesn't mean you have to do it. You are still healing, and that's a long time to be in a car. I would put this off if at all possible for now.

I agree maybe if you don't have to do so, if so then a donut pillow for sure. My Dh might have to go get my Father next weekend 2 hrs away, if so I will not be going. Dad is coming here to help out the first week DH goes back to work, but Father is having car trouble, but I will opt to stay home during this time. it would be 4 hrs in the car all together

It's bad enough to sit in the car for that trip but DRIVING!!!!!! You are a brave woman. You probably would be happier in the long run to call your sisters. Maybe go in another 5 weeks, the weather would be nicer
