need to know what questions to ask Dr before surgery

As usual the best laid plans go awry.
I have an appt w/ the surgeon on Mon, I was going to take the wkend to research some stuff (I'm having a hysterectomy keeping my ovaries by abdonminal surgery).

I am very unprepared for this. I was planning on being prepared as I said--but a week ago Friday my dad had a stroke then 2 days ago my aunt died. Now I have to go out of state to a funeral and then too see my dad. I won't even b home until Mon morn...and with all the travel arrangemnets and packing and leaving my dd and dh home alone there's too much for me too do, too do any reading.

So I need some info.
I need to know what it is I need too know. What questions are good to ask the dr. This is my only chance to see him before surgery and I am at a loss as too what I need to even go over w/ him. Mostly I need to know what I should be asking him about. I just have no idea.

Also I was wonderng How lg does it take to perform abdonimal surgery vs laproscopic vs vaginal . I know everyone is different--just would like a ball park figure if someone has an idea.

Any thoughts any info would b greatly appreciated.
I wish I had time too do this better , but truthfully I am so lost in shock and grief at this moment I can't even think straight.

So any help or ideas would b so greatly appreciated.

I'm so sorry you're going through so much all at once.

Here's a link to a great list of pre-op questions. I printed this and took it to the office with me. We went through the questions one by one and I made notes so I wouldn't forget anything.

You might also find this helpful - it's a list of common abbreviations.

I hope this helps. Please take care of yourself.

PS - I had a TAH, and it took about 90 minutes, but as you said everyone is different.
