Focus on the positive reasons why you are having surgery & think of the positive ways your life will benefit!!! Write them down!

Think of a new hobby or something you would love to learn/try/experience when you are fully recovered!

Can you go for a walk or catch up with friends to pass some time? How about writing someone you really care about a letter letting them know how special they are to you!

I'm sure our other Sisters will be add heaps more ideas to calm your nerves!

Positive thoughts for a calm day & great recovery!

good morning!

eagle1427,

Aw, sweety. What I did the day before my surgery was made sure EVERY piece of clothing was washed, my dog had a bath, clipped toe nails, washed my cabinets down, anything to get my mind off of my surgery, fun or not!.. all of the lil things that you can think of!...I was so excited to have my surgery the day before seem to DRAG on and on!...
Even if you blare your music and dance around ur living room just NOT to think! Usually the simplest of things bring us the biggest pleasures! Good Luck...Godspeed!!!

you have a GREAT day!

I need words of WISDOM please

I think it might help to stop and realize (according to a previous post) that you have been through two other procedures in a three month period and you are worn out! I know you don't want to live like that. The other options apparently didn't work and I think you need to assure yourself that this is the best decision for you at this time. I think you will be so glad to be on the other side of this! We all will. My surgery is one week from today and I've been trying to treat fibroids with medicine. I am having troublesome side effects from the meds and the doctor said that if I quit taking them I will POUR! I just want to get the problem fixed. I don't want to keep fighting it, wondering if I will keep bleeding for another 3 weeks or if I will become anemic again or (though it's VERY RARE) could any of this stuff be cancerous. I did NOT want to have surgery, but now I'm seeing it as the best option for me and at that point, I've made the best decision I can make and then after I've done all I know to do. I trust. Hope this helps and maybe we will "see" each other on the post op boards saying "If only I'd done this sooner!"

I need some words of wisdom please

Hi! Here is my 2 cents. Remember you are not alone, and it is quite normal to be nervous/afraid the day before the surgery. Try to remember to breathe and help yourself be calm. Usually we are getting these surgeries, because it is the best solution for our health problems. It was for me. Try to think of all the positive things and ways you will feel after the surgery. We are here for you all times of the day. I was with my family the day before, and am staying with them during my recovery. Being around people really helped me. They helped remind me why I needed the surgery and also took my mind off it. although I am in pain, it's recovery pain and that helps me feel better knowing it's getting better and is no longer the same pain. I have better health and good times coming down the road to meet me. I know I'm getting there. Good luck and best wishes to you!

I need words of WISDOM please

If it helps at all, I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to sleep the night before from anxiety (or that I'd oversleep and be late!). So I decided to just go to bed and have the TV on and just veg out - if i slept, I slept. Somewhere along the line a strange sense of peace came over me and the anxiety went away. Maybe it was just "surrendering" and knowing that I was moving closer to being able to walk through the thing I was afraid of - even tho I had 3 surgeries before so it wasn't a mystery what to expect. And everything went just fine - from being a basket case I was able to handle everything well and wasn't afraid. Maybe the key was allowing myself not "to think". Mariah

I need words of WISDOM please

As someone else mentioned, waiting seems to be the hardest part. My surgery is a week from today and I can't wait to get it over with. Next Tuesday, I'll be giving my dogs a bath, preparing a couple weeks worth of meals for them - to make it easier for the DH. And based on the great ideas that I read from this site, getting my bedroom ready, extra pillows, a bed try for my laptop - just stuff to make my return home easier for everyone invloved. Oh - lets not forget the bowel prep that will keep me in the house for several hours

Close your eyes - breath deep - and think of the positive.
Good luck to you.

Sweetie you are almost there - just a few more hours now. Think of all the people who have weeks of waiting. Sometimes doing things that "need" doing helps - mechanical mundane things. But that was not enough for me as I was driving myself crazy with worry and anxiety. So I plunged in a began working on my new business plan a week before surgery - that took my mind right off and made me look forward. The surgery went very well and the recovery was easy. Soon you will be on the post-op side and sharing your wisdom with others. hang in there. My best to you.

I need words of WISDOM please

It is perfectly normal to be scared, worried etc the day before, and the day off any type of surgery. The best thing to do is try and take your mind off of it. Find something, anything, to occupy your time. Start a good book, take a long walk, write a letter, do mundane things like housework. Try to take a nap, you'll need plenty of rest. Call a friend you haven't talked to in a while, and talk. Go to a salon, and get your hair done, or get a massage. Just do something, even go to a store and window shop. Don't sit around and stress yourself out, that does no good. Find someway to occupy yourself, stay online and talk to us. Remember why you are having this surgery, and realize how much better you will feel afterwards. Focus on the positive aspects, not the negatives. Take a deep calming breath, s-l-o-w-l-y, completely fill your lungs, hold for about 2 seconds (count 1 and 2) then let it out s-l-o-w-l-y through your nose, releasing all your fears and anxieties with it. Focus on your breathing until your mind is empty of everything else except for counting 1-5 as you inhale and exhale. Do this a couple times, its a technique I learned to deal with panic attacks, and I use it quite successfully with anxious patients.
Best wishes, don't forget to come back and let us know how you are doing.......those of us still waiting

I would like to thank all of you for your words of wisdom here, Just got home from my pre testing and a little bit relaxed now that I have seen everyone I needed to talk to, some of the nurses couldnt believe I was getting this done the day before my surgery but it's all good I guess either way. They gave me an at home prep kit ...OH BOY ..... but again thank you all I will keep you updated on my recovery and best wishes to all of you who are still waiting also.
