Oh No I Got An Infection!!

Well ladies, here I am 5 days out from my surgery, and guess what? I got a urinary / bladder infection! I am disappointed about that! I was doing so good too, and felt great!! The only troubles I have had was the aches and pains from the surgery and stitches and from the gas they used to blow my stomach up for visualization purposes to see my internal organs during the surgery. ( OUCH! GAS PAINS HURT) I been following dr.s orders and walking alot ect. It started Sunday morning with a strong urine order when I woke up and went to the bathroom.. and then this Monday morning, it burned alittle when I went to the bathroom... After playing phone tag pretty much of the day with dr's. I finally was able to go and get a urine test done... and yup, there it was.......... the infection.!! And the funny thing about this is, I am not really running a real high fever with this.. its been like 99.7 to 100.6. I drink plenty of water, and craneberry juice ect. So I dont know exactly how this came about.... maybe the catheter that I had for 24 hours? I havent had a bladder / urinary/ kidney infection for 21 years and was shocked that I got one! Does everyone who gets a hysterectomy get these? Is it a one time thing when your healing? or does it happen alot during the healing process?

Urinary tract infections ~ are these common?

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this but they're quite common, unfortunately, after hysterectomy.

I know that many members have had this too and I hope they'll be along soon to share. In the meantime, it may help you to read our article <link> UTI After Hysterectomy which explains in more detail.

Sending all good wishes and I hope it clears up very soon. Take care!

Urinary tract infections ~ are these common?

i too had a UTI after my surgery, i was sent home with a cath and put on loads of antibiotics. at my post op appt.. i still had a UTI, but Dr never called me after to tell me... i have another appt Thursday to re-check it..
do you still have a temp ? i do not.... if you still run a fever after 24-48 hours after you start antiobiotic i would call DR.. antibiotic may not be working... it stinks that you have to have this UTI, but know that your not alone and many of us are going threw this together...

Urinary tract infections ~ are these common?

i had a really bad uti about a week after my surgery, no fever just hard to urinate & some pain. i was shocked when they found the infection because of no fever, but the nurse said she knew when she found out i had been cathed several times in hospital, it's so common i dont know why doc's dont give us a antibiotic script on our way home from the hospital!! hope your feeling better soon((Hugs))

Urinary tract infections ~ are these common?

I too had one 2 days post op. I was still in the hospital at the time. After reading alot of the messages on this site, it seems to be very common. Good luck with your recovery.

Thanks ladies

It was very nice to hear from all of you! Thank you!! My temp goes up and down, I just took it just now and it was 100.8. voiding is getting alot easier, but I am more tired now than I was after I came home from the hospital... The dr's gave me 3 days worth of antibiotics? But I guess they have to culture the urine to make sure its the right one for the infection. I go into the drs tomorrow to get my stitches out. So I will be asking more questions thats for sure. The thing is too, they asked me if I am having any foul spelling vaginal discharge besides? I told them I dont think so....Exactly what do they call foul smelling?? I know its dumb to ask, but I dont have a clue?? How am I suppose to know whats a normal smell and whats not after a hysterectomy? Your bleeding lightly and all, so how are you suppose to know?
