2 days post-op....Would it be rude if I.....

put a sign on my front door like "Do not disturb unless you are family or close friends"? My landlord's nephew came by for rent at 8:30 this morning and I told him Monday evening that I am waiting on the Federal tax return check and that I was having surgery Tuesday. I woke up at 4:30 this morning and have napped twice since then for about an hour. I'm just tired of getting woke up. I didn't go to the door when he came and my 13 year old son didn't wake up to get the door. So.....would it be rude or inappropriate for me to put a sign up?

Absolutely not! Do not feel bad for not answering the door at all, you need your rest, who wants to see the landlords nephew 2days post op anyway! There were plenty of times the doorbell rang and I didn't get up to answer, if it was anything important they'd be back or call.

I don't think it would be rude, especially if people come by that have no idea that you had surgery. You could even mention that in the sign. "Due to surgery...."

Your rent should of been taken care of before your surgery and then no-body would be bothering you to collect rent. If your rent is due on the 1st of the month you are over due and they should not be waiting for your federal tax cheque. Sorry, the truth hurts.

Ouch, I don't think she needed that much truth today, stuff happens to people and sometimes they need a couple days. I own my home and don't have rent problems but give her a break, do you remember how stressed you were the days/weeks before surgery. I sure do, I forgot to mail my cell phone bill and my cell phone rang in the recovery room and my DH had to pay it over the phone right there while the nurses were setting up my PCA and messing with my foley. Now, to GoofyLady, love your name, that's what my daughters call my mom. My DH had strict instructions from me that I wanted absolutely NO VISTORS in the hospital at all (including all family, my parents included). My mother in law got her feelings hurt, but I'm hoping the fabulous mother's day gift I got her will help her forget about all that. You should put a note on the door and definately you take care of your rent on monday, but if they know you had surgery I'm sure they'll be able to wait (maybe you could make a quick call to landlord to let him know you're not avoiding the rent thing so he'll wait till monday). Take care, hope you feel better.

Dear Goofy lady
I agree with the others that you need to focus on YOU and your well being.
My mom and husband told people when they called and wanted to come by that I was not having visitors and would let them know when I was.

Get your rest and dont worry about the small stuff-good luck to you!

That was a bit harsh. Iwas trying to take care of my bills before I left, but overlooked the car insurance. You have so much on your mind beforehand, worrying about bills is the last thing you need.

I just got home yesterday from my surgery on Monday. I have had visitors, mostly family. When I got tired of talking I just shut my eyes and stopped talking. They got the hint and left.

thanks ladies! I have just been tired and sore today all i have wanted to do was rest. i can't help that i didn't get the rent paid....if you knew the history of why my rent is behind maybe some of you would understand but that's another story in itself. he was told monday that i was having surgery and we were waiting on the check and he told me to call when it came so he wouldn't have to make a trip by for nothing....that's one reason it irritated me so much. plus i couldn't go check my mail.....DBF had the only key to the box and i couldn't remember to tell him to leave it.
